The American Express will be short a World No. 1 after Scottie Scheffler pushed back his return from injury. That puts the spotlight on World No. 2 Xander Schauffele, who's coming off his best season as a pro in which he won two major championships.
His good pal Patrick Cantlay is also in the field this week, as is Justin Thomas, Sungjae Im, and Sam Burns. They highlight the American Express odds board below.

All eyes will be on Xander Schauffele this week, and while he remains a healthy +800 favorite over this decent field, his recent results haven't been up to snuff. He finished T30 at the Sentry two weeks ago and finished T41 at the ZOZO in his previous start; those would be by far his two worst results dating back to his T54 at Pebble Beach last February.
Still, he snagged his first two majors last season and finished no worse than T15 between May and the end of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He's a rightful favorite this week, considering he's also finished T3 in each of the last two editions of the Amex.
Beyond Xander lies a handful of stars in the 15/1 range, notably Justin Thomas (+1400) and Patrick Cantlay (+1600). JT finished T3 here and shot a 61 on Saturday. Cantlay finished T52 last year but did finish runner-up in 2021.
Sunjae Im (T25 last year) and Sam Burns (T6) are also in the Top 5. Defending champion Nick Dunlap is on the board at +4500.
