The 89th edition of the Masters Tournament gets underway this week at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. While betting favorites often come out on top, past champions have still offered strong value for bettors.
Scottie Scheffler won the 2022 Masters at 17-1, while Hideki Matsuyama won in 2021 at 50-1.
As part of my Masters predictions, I break down the odds and highlight a long shot with a legitimate upside to contend in the 2025 Masters.
Wide range of odds for Russell Henley
Russell Henley’s odds vary across the board. He’s listed as low as 45-1 at bet365 and as long as 66-1 at DraftKings, offering substantial value at the latter.
Given that value, I’m recommending a small wager (0.3 units) on Henley in the outright market, paired with a one-unit bet on him to finish in the top 20 at +140, both through DraftKings.
Why Russell Henley is a worth longshot
In my estimation, Russell Henley is the most underrated golfer in the betting market and has been for some time. Despite ranking inside the top seven in the Data Golf, Official World Golf, and FedEx Cup rankings, Henley rarely finds himself near the top of the odds board.
He’s a tremendous all-around golfer whose only real drawback is a lack of distance off the tee. While that can be a disadvantage at Augusta, it's not nearly as important as iron play, especially considering Augusta National is a second-shot course.
Henley ranks 22nd on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained on approach.
Given that profile, it’s no surprise Henley has made the cut in each of his past seven appearances at Augusta. He boasts three top-15 finishes during that stretch, including a T4 performance in 2023.
Henley has gained strokes in all four major statistical categories in each of the past three Masters, giving him a remarkably high floor for a golfer priced as long as 66-1 in the outright market. He’s also a five-time PGA Tour winner, so there's a high ceiling to match that safe floor.
Henley recently won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, beating the likes of Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy. He has also finished inside the top 20 in six of his past nine tournaments.
Pick: Russell Henley to win outright (+6600 at DraftKings, 0.3 units)
Pick: Russell Henley Top 20 (+140 at DraftKings)
