Are you ready for some football? The NFL kicks off its 2024 preseason on Thursday, August 1 with the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game featuring the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears

Both teams generated plenty of headlines last season, although for very different reasons. The Texans garnered attention for their superlative play on the field, finishing first in the AFC South and advancing to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2019. Houston owed its better-than-expected finish to first round draft pick C.J. Stroud, who won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and was named to the Pro Bowl after leading the league in yards gained per game played.

The Bears, meanwhile, missed the playoffs for the third straight season and were widely derided for their sputtering offense. Management has since cleaned house, bidding adieu to quarterback Justin Fields and welcoming in Caleb Williams, whom they selected with the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Heisman Trophy winner put together a dazzling resume at Oklahoma and USC and appears to have the arm talent, vision, and leadership skills to help turn around Chicago's fortunes.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game isn't the only big sporting event in August. Fans can also look forward to the Summer Olympics, UFC 305, the TOUR Championship, and the U.S. Open.

Ryan’s top piece of advice to sports bettors: “Bet with your head, not your heart. It pains me to be pragmatic, but blind loyalty has no place in sports wagering.”
