Caesars Virginia will open its doors to the state's newest casino on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Spanning 90,000 square feet of gaming space, the resort will feature 1,500 slot machines, more than 100 live-action and electronic table games, a poker room, and Caesars Sportsbook.
Caesars Virginia will also include 320 hotel rooms, 50,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, a spa, pool, and a live entertainment venue.
Patrons will have a number of drinking and dining options, including Gordon Ramsay’s famed Ramsay’s Kitchen and the 500 Block Food Hall developed by Rick Barker and local restaurateur Steve Parry.
“We have worked diligently on creating a world-class resort that will offer all the luxurious and modern amenities expected from Caesars that will also serve as an economic driver for Danville and the surrounding region through employment and tourism,” said Barron Fuller, regional president for Caesars Entertainment.
“We’re so proud of Caesars Virginia and look forward to welcoming guests on Dec. 12.”
Caesars Virginia background
In 2020, Virginia passed a bill allowing casinos in five host cities: Portsmouth, Richmond, Norfolk, Danville, and Bristol. That year, Danville approved a proposal for Caesars to build a $400-million casino resort at the former Dan River Mills industrial complex. In 2022, the plan was amended for a larger, $650-million project in a partnership between Caesars Entertainment and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
In homage to its roots, the resort design retained the mill’s three smokestacks, known as the “Three Sisters,” overlooking the property.
While the resort was under construction, Caesars Virginia obtained a license to operate a temporary casino in the area. It opened in May 2023, featuring a 40,000-square foot gaming facility. The temporary facility employs up to 400 people, whereas the new casino will employ roughly 1,200 team members.
“Our partnership with Caesars Virginia marks a significant milestone in the region’s growth, creating jobs and economic opportunities that will benefit both Danville and the surrounding communities,” said Principal Chief Michell Hicks of the Easter Band of Cherokee Indians.
“The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is proud to be a part of this exciting new chapter, as this resort represents and impressive investment in hospitality and entertainment.”
Opening day festivities will be announced at a later date.
