It’s officially football novelty and props season. The spread and total typically take precedent when it comes to Super Bowl odds, but when the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs meet at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans Feb. 9, bettors will sweat out all kinds of other wagers.

“Super Bowl novelty props add a new layer to betting that players love,” BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said. “The coin toss and Gatorade bath color are among the most bet markets every year.”

BetMGM has odds for the coin toss outcome at -102 for both sides with 55% of tickets already betting on heads. However, 53% of the handle is on tails. The bet count for which team wins the toss is split 50-50, but the Chiefs have received 65% of the money.

Not every regulated U.S. jurisdiction allows novelty and Super Bowl props. According to BetMGM, coin toss odds are prohibited in Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington.

The tradition of Gatorade getting dumped on the head of the winning team's head coach also captivates bettors. Well, at least the color of it. BetMGM already moved the sports drink’s purple option from +350 to +250, making that color the favorite. It’s getting 20% of the handle. However, 26% of the tickets and 24% of the handle are on the yellow/green/lime selection at +300 Gatorade color odds

The Eagles wear green and the Chiefs have yellow in their team colors. As BetMGM noted in their report, green/yellow/lime is what players dumped on Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni after they won the NFC Championship Game over the Washington Commanders last Sunday.

Orange (+400), one of the more popular Gatorade colors, saw 25% of the bets in this market and 20% of the money with red/pink, which opened as the favorite and similar to the other Chiefs’ team color, is getting 16% of the money.

BetMGM’s Gatorade bath wagers are only available in Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, West Virginia, Wyoming, Washington, D.C., and Ontario.

Big Game’s top player

Bettors face tough decisions when wagering on the Super Bowl MVP. Take long shots on unheralded players become heroes, stick to the stars like Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, or mix in a combination of both. So far, BetMGM is seeing the more expected choice.

"Early bettors are following the stars,” Cipollini said. “Saquon and (Travis) Kelce hold the biggest liabilities for their player props and for Super Bowl MVP. These guys staying out of the endzone would be great for the book.”

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is the favorite in the Super Bowl MVP odds market with +105 odds, but Barkley is the most-bet player at 17.7% while Kelce commands the biggest liability with 22.1% of the money backing Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.

BetMGM reported a bettor placed $25,000 on Kelce’s +1,500 MVP odds. A win would pay out $375,000.

Barkley put up incredible numbers this season. The Eagles star rushed for over 2,400 yards, including playoff games, and went over 100 yards in 14 of 19 games played.

It's no surprise that Fanatics Sportsbook reported he’s the most popular player in terms of handle during early betting. His -190 odds in the anytime touchdown market are getting 40% of the same-game parlay money wagered thus far at the online sportsbook.

Jalen Hurts to score a TD at -120 is the second-most popular SGP bet at Fanatics, followed by Eagles moneyline, Kareem Hunt anytime TD (+130), and Barkley to score 2+ TDs (+220).
