Microbetting took off during the 2023 NFL season, offering bettors new ways to place wagers with fast results.
Simplebet, a global technology leader in micro-betting products, saw increases in the number of bets placed during the 2023 NFL regular season, enjoying a 60% increase from 2022.
Taking roughly 18 million wagers during the 2023 NFL regular season, Simplebet’s betting handle was also up 60% from 2022. This includes 1.6 million unique users who placed a micro-bet wager while using online sportsbooks partnered with the micro-betting pioneer.
“This NFL season was one to remember for Simplebet,” said Simplebet CEO Chris Bevilacqua. “Not only did we go live in new states with new operators, but we also created unique betting markets that changed the way users engage with the NFL broadcast, leading to new highs across the board for us. With the Super Bowl on the horizon, we can’t wait to create new pathways for fans to engage with the big game in ways they’ve never done so before.”
Playoff success
The success of the regular season carried over into the NFL playoffs. Simplebet’s micro-betting markets recorded close to $70 million in total betting handle across the first three rounds of the postseason.
With three million bets placed, it’s the first time that Simplebet has achieved this number of micro-bet wagers prior to the Super Bowl. Last weekend, $14 million in betting handle alone was brought in during the Championship round.
Bet types and engagement
Same Drive Parlays were a popular NFL micro-betting market in 2023, allowing bettors to create and build prop bets into a parlay, such as what will happen on the first play, how the drive will end, and which player will record a reception.
Simplebet experienced a lot of engagement from NFL fans in every region of the country during 2023. The three teams that saw the most engagement in micro-betting markets on sportsbooks who actively partner with Simplebet’s services include the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, and Buffalo Bills. In terms of demographic engagement, sports bettors in New York, Ohio, and Illinois topped the list.
