The New York Yankees broke out of their funk and snapped a four-game skid with a thunderous showing at the plate Tuesday, but they’ll have to go through Shohei Ohtani to make it two in a row when they meet the Los Angeles Angels for the third contest of this four-game set.
The two-way sensation has put on a show at Yankee Stadium, clubbing homers in both games of the series, including two last night, and will now take the mound for his first-ever start in the Bronx.

Starting pitchers
Shohei Ohtani (3-1, 2,58 ERA) The two-way star has been a beast both at the plate and on the mound, with his pitching improving as the year has gone on. He's coming off a season-high 105-pitch outing against the first-place Giants in which he allowed one run, struck out nine, and induced 21 swinging strikes (his top mark of the season). He has allowed six runs in four June starts.
Domingo German (4-5, 4.32 ERA): The right-hander has really struggled after a strong start to the season. After missing all of last season following a domestic violence suspension, German came out shining, putting up a 3.12 ERA over his first 11 starts. He's been shelled since, sporting a 10.22 ERA over his last three outings and allowing 22 hits over the span of 12 1-3 innings.

Moneyline pick
Ohtani continues to do things on the baseball diamond that no other player in the game can do. With apologies to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ohtani is the clear MVP as we approach the halfway point of the season.
His multi-homer game Tuesday has moved him into sole possession of the MLB lead in home runs. He has homered in three straight games and in nine of his last 13 and will be in the lineup for Wednesday’s start, which makes Los Angeles infinitely more appealing having his bat available, and it forces the Yankees to game plan for him in two separate ways.
Ohtani comes into this start on a roll, looking to finish off June with his second straight sub-3.00 ERA month. Since allowing a season-high four runs to the Rangers on April 26, Ohtani has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his past eight starts.
He has corrected the control issues that plagued him earlier on, sporting a sparkling 6.4 strikeout-to-walk rate in four June starts, and he has completed six innings in three of those outings. The Angels have also won three of those games, with the lone defeat being an extra-inning loss to the NL West-leading Giants that got away from the Angels' bullpen in the 13th inning.
To be able to get the Angels in an Ohtani start against a team as inconsistent as the Yankees, who will be trotting out a pitcher with a 7.04 ERA in five June starts, is a no-brainer.
Take the Angels, who have put up five runs against Yankee pitching in back-to-back games, and enjoy the Sho.
PREDICTION: Los Angeles (+117)
Over/Under pick
We've taken the Over in both of the first two games of this series and have settled for a split, with the teams combining for eight runs in the series opener before the bats predictably demolished starters Andrew Heaney and Jameson Taillon in an 11-5 Yankees win last night.
Wednesday's contest is the third consecutive double-digit total after it was bet up to 10 following a 9.5 opening. While we like Ohtani to stay hot against a Yankees team that is average against right-handers and has a high strikeout rate that the Japanese star (12.4 K/9) should exploit, German makes this number tricky.
After allowing three runs or fewer in 10 of his first 11 starts, he has surrendered four-plus runs in each of his last three outings and has failed to complete five innings in any of them.
German also has also been unable to shake the home run issues that have plagued him throughout his short career, as he takes a 1.73 HR/9 rate into the start that is the ninth-highest mark among pitchers who have thrown 70 innings this season. He has particularly struggled to keep the ball in the yard in his home park, surrendering 12 of his 14 bombs at Yankee Stadium.
The Angels can hit them out, too, tied for fifth in the majors in home runs and third over the last month (the Yankees are second). We've already seen 10 balls leave the yard this series and there's no reason to think they will stop flying out tonight.
Los Angeles doesn't have a trustworthy 'pen (sixth-highest ERA) to back Ohtani, while the Yankees' stellar relief group has stumbled recently, sporting a 4.71 ERA over the last 30 days and a .261 batting average against that's a Bottom-10 mark in baseball. They will be tested, too, with German's chances of giving the Yankees much length slim.
With a 48-31 O/U mark, the Angels cash Overs at the third-highest rate in MLB. Back the Over again.
