A's vs Red Sox Prediction, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

Although Boston right-hander Tanner Houck has hit a rough skid over his last couple of starts, the newly named All-Star is due for positive regression against a poor Oakland offense. Chris Faria has more below ahead of Wednesday's matchup at Fenway Park.

The Boston Red Sox will look to earn their third straight series win when they finish off a three-game set against the Oakland Athletics tonight at Fenway Park.

First-time All-Star Tanner Houck will take the mound for the home team, and my A's vs. Red Sox expect him to bounce back from a couple of rough outings.

A's vs Red Sox prediction

My best bet
A's team total Under 3.5 (+110 at DraftKings)

My analysis

Tanner Houck will look to steady the ship when he takes the mound for the Boston Red Sox tonight. The right-hander is coming off a couple of rough outings, as he was rocked for nine hits and seven earned runs by the Padres back on June 29 and then gave up three runs (one earned) over just 3 1/3 innings to the Yankees in his last start on July 5.

Despite the recent blip, the first-time All-Star has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the MLB this season, posting 13 quality starts in 18 games — tied for sixth-most among all starters.

Houck, whose 2.68 ERA is also sixth among starters, has held the opposition to three earned runs or fewer in 16 of his 18 outings while averaging nearly 6 1/3 innings per appearance.

It could be a slow night at the plate for the Oakland A's, who rank 27th this season with just 3.84 runs per game while batting just .224 against right-handed pitching (27th). Outside of a 19-8 win against the Orioles last Saturday, Oakland is scoring just 3.73 runs per game over its last 15 games.

A's vs Red Sox same-game parlay (SGP)

A's team total Under 3.5

Rafael Devers Over 1.5 total bases

Rafael Devers Over 0.5 RBI

Rafael Devers has been a force at the plate for the Red Sox this month, already having collected 13 RBI in eight games. The third baseman was held hitless in Wednesday’s defeat but had recorded multiple RBI in seven of his eight previous outings.

The Red Sox slugger has also notched 2+ total bases in nine of his last 13 contests and should find success against A’s starter Luis Medina, who owns a bleak 4.37 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP this year.
