Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

Despite being an Under team most of the season, the Blue Jays are finally scoring runs in bunches. This has been due to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and, lately, Spencer Horwitz. They get another good matchup against Red Sox SP Kutter Crawford tonight.

The Toronto Blue Jays got a much-needed win last night, snapping their seven-game losing streak by taking Game 2 of their series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park by a score of 9-4.

Not surprisingly, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was once again the catalyst, hitting two doubles and driving in four runs. As my Blue Jays vs. Red Sox predictions suggest, Vladdy and the Jays can stay hot and turn this into a winning streak.

I break down the MLB odds in my MLB picks for Wednesday, June 26.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox prediction

My best bet
Blue Jays team total Over 4.5 (-103 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

This time, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gave the Toronto Blue Jays a lead they did not cough up. And thank goodness. I don’t know what Vladdy would have done if they had done it again.

Guerrero is hitting .409 with three doubles, three dingers, and 10 RBI over his last five games. So, while the Jays have had many issues, Vladdy is not one of them. Toronto rode a hot Vladdy and a good matchup against Boston Red Sox starter Brayan Bello to yesterday’s 9-4 win and things are set up well for the Jays again tonight.

That’s because the Red Sox hand the ball to Kutter Crawford for the rubber match.

The 28-year-old right-hander has surrendered 23 earned runs and 10 homers over his last six starts while allowing opponents to hit for an .802 OPS. That drops his expected ERA to 3.91 for the season, which is just about league average.

Crawford is a flyball pitcher, and he’s been burned by the long ball recently. He ranks in the 30th percentile or worse in barrel and ground ball rate, and he’s another Boston starter who the Jays have solid numbers against.

Current Toronto batters have gotten to Crawford for a .268 xBA and a .453 xSLG., and despite the Jays' recent struggles, they’ve put up 15 runs in this series and plated five or more in three straight games.

The Blue Jays have a great chance to make it four against Crawford.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Spencer Horwitz Over 0.5 RBIs (+175 at PROLINE+)

This is normally where I hammer Vladdy props, but his hot streak has sapped most of his value, at least for this game. Instead, I’ll look to Spencer Horwitz, who the Blue Jays hope is a future star.

The 26-year-old has made an immediate impact, hitting .348 with a 1.013 OPS, two home runs, and six RBI through 15 big-league games.

And even though it's a small sample, Horwitz’s advanced numbers are outstanding. His .325 xBA and .549 xSLG would be among the league leaders. That power and the lefty split advantage against Crawford means he could belt a couple of baseballs tonight.

Horwitz has also been hitting in the No. 2 hole. That does a few things. He’s hitting behind guys like Bo Bichette and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Bichette is having a tough year but has good numbers vs. Crawford while IKF has been one of the Jays hottest hitters, so Horwitz should come up with runners on.

Second, he’s hitting ahead of the white-hot Vladdy, which means he’s going to get some pitches to hit.

I’m betting Horwitz gets into one and drives in a run tonight.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Blue Jays opened as sizeable -160 road underdogs and that's approximately where they remain as of Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Blue Jays are big underdogs because the Red Sox have a notable edge in starting pitching with Crawford going against Yariel Rodriguez, who has a 5.57 xERA over five starts.
  • The total hit the board at 9.0 but early bettors were quick to jump on that number moving it up to 9.5.
  • The Jays have generally been an Under team this season, but their bats have come around in this series with the two previous games going Over.
