The New York Yankees were clobbered in Thursday’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays and will look to turn things tonight around after dropping four straight games.
While Marcus Stroman gets the start against his former club, the real story to watch will be a slugger’s showdown between Aaron Judge and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who have both been mashing the baseball.
Find out why both batters are featured in my Yankees vs. Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for Friday, June 28.
Yankees vs Blue Jays prediction
My best bet
Aaron Judge Over 0.5 home runs (+175 at PROLINE+)
My analysis
The New York Yankees suffered their fourth straight loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, as their offense dried up once again in a 9-2 defeat. It was an uncharacteristically poor outing for Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, who went 0-for-4 at the plate, though I expect him to bounce back tonight.
The leading candidate in the AL MVP race has been absolutely mashing the ball this month, leading the MLB with 32 RBI in June while ranking third in home runs (10) and batting average (.382). Judge has been virtually unstoppable over the past week as he’s homered in four of his last seven games, and he has a good chance at doing so again versus Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi.
Kikuchi has hit a rough patch over the last month and is coming off his worst start of the year after giving up eight hits and four runs in just two innings against the Guardians on June 23. The southpaw has allowed at least four earned runs in four of his last six starts and has been particularly susceptible to the long ball, surrendering nine homers through his last nine games.
Even if Judge doesn’t go yard off Kikuchi, he’ll get some good looks later in the ballgame, as the Blue Jays have given up 109 home runs on the year — second worst in the majors. That’s due in large part to their dreadful bullpen, which ranks dead last in home runs allowed (48).

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+138 at PROLINE+)
Toronto’s offense has come alive over the last few games, thanks largely to the performance of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Jays slugger has been doing his best Judge impression this past week, notching four home runs and 12 RBI in his last six contests.
Vlad comes into Friday’s contest on a four-game RBI streak, having driven in multiple runs in each of those games. He’s also notched at least two hits in each of those contests as well, so his consistent contact and power should land him another RBI or two.
