This interleague series continues on Tuesday evening with the Minnesota Twins hosting the Atlanta Braves at Target Field. MLB odds have this game as a pick ‘em, while the total sits at 8.

My Braves vs. Twins prediction is optimistic about the road team, primarily due to the pitching matchup.

Read on for my MLB picks for Tuesday, August 27.

My best bet
Braves moneyline (-110 at BetMGM)

My analysis

The Atlanta Braves hand the ball to rookie right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach, who looks to have a bright future in this league. The former second-round pick possesses a 3.94 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 14 starts in his inaugural professional season, but it is his analytics that truly paint the picture.

Schwellenbach boasts a 3.04 xERA and ranks in the top quarter of the league in xBA, strikeout rate, walk rate, and barrel rate. Entering this game in particularly good form, the 24-year-old has surrendered three or fewer runs in five consecutive starts.

He is 2-1 over that stretch with a commanding 2.84 ERA. Meanwhile, right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson takes the mound for the Minnesota Twins.

Not that Woods Richardson is a bad pitcher, but he isn’t quite on Schwellenbach’s level as the latter possesses a stronger WHIP, xERA, xBA, average exit velocity, strikeout rate, walk rate, and barrel rate. The pitching edge doesn’t stop there for Atlanta as its relief staff outranks Minnesota’s in ERA, FIP, and xFIP.

Braves vs Twins same-game parlay (SGP)

Braves moneyline

Spencer Schwellenbach Over 6.5 strikeouts

Jorge Soler Over 0.5 hits

I am also going to back Schwellenbach in the prop market as the rookie ranks in the 98th percentile in chase rate, 81st percentile in whiff rate, and 87th percentile in strikeout rate. You can currently find his strikeout prop at 6.5, a total he has surpassed in each of his past six starts.

Jorge Soler has recorded 23 hits over his past 23 games, and this success is likely to continue against Woods Richardson, a pitcher whom Soler is 1-for-3 against with a double.

Braves vs Twins opening odds

  • Moneyline: Atlanta -1.5 (+150) | Minnesota +1.5 (-180)
  • Run line: Atlanta -110 |  Minnesota -110
  • Over/Under: Over 8 (-115) | Under 8 (-105)

Braves vs Twins moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • This game opened as a pick ‘em and remains at that price as of Tuesday morning.
  • I project this line to move in the Braves’ direction giving their advantage on the mound.
  • The total opened at 8 and also remains at that number.
  • I believe that this line is more likely to move to 7.5 than 8.5, given that both starting pitchers rank in the top half of the league in xERA, xBA, average exit velocity, and walk rate.
