Walker Buehler (12-2, 2.13 ERA): Over his last six starts, Buehler has allowed only five runs for the Dodgers. The extent to which he has dominated this year is impossible to put into words, and that’s why Buehler is currently one of the favorites to win the NL Cy Young Award. Now, the righty will look to add to his resume with a win on the road, where he is 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA on the season.
Taijuan Walker (7-7, 3.89 ERA): Walker snapped a streak of four miserable starts in a row by turning in a quality start against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 8. The Mets ultimately lost that game, but they have to be excited about the righty finally getting back on track a little bit. However, Walker still isn’t striking out batters the way he was early in the year. He’s going to need to dig deep to find a way to beat the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are sixth in the league in homers against right-handed pitching, which means they could absolutely tee off in this meeting with Walker. The 28-year-old just hasn’t been able to keep the ball in the park lately, as he has given up 10 homers over his last four starts. Walker was a bit better in his last trip to the hill, but this isn’t a great matchup for him.
On top of this Los Angeles team just being good against righties, Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy, Albert Pujols and Corey Seager have all hit bombs off Walker in their careers. All of them will be threats to go yard again here, and it’s also hard to ignore Will Smith, who hit the game-winning homer against the Mets in extra innings last night.
The Mets are actually one of the few teams that have given Buehler trouble in his career, but it’s hard to get overly worked up about that. This is the best the righty has ever been, and it’s just too hard to pass up on him at these odds.
PREDICTION: Dodgers ML (-178)
Over/Under pick
Buehler is one of the most dominant pitchers in the game, but he actually has had some trouble with the Mets in the past. Pete Alonso has hit two homers off the ace in his career, and he can easily come through with a big swing for Over bettors in this one. Also, Dominic Smith is 2 for 3 against the righty, giving New York another player that should be somewhat confident against Buehler.
Whether or not the Mets can get it going against Buehler could also end up being irrelevant here. Los Angeles’ lineup should be able to chase Walker in this game, as the righty isn’t pitching well and has given up at least two homers in each of the last four games. This Dodgers team isn’t one to mess around with, and they can easily go yard a few times here.
