The Philadelphia Phillies’ offensive struggles continued on Friday night in a 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The Phillies are looking for a better performance in Game 2 of the three-game set on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Cleveland’s offense also hasn’t been too hot as Friday’s three runs were the third-most it’s scored in a game since the All-Star break.

Read on for my Guardians vs. Phillies predictions and MLB picks for Saturday, July 27.

Guardians vs Phillies prediction

My best bet
Under 9 (-102 at DraftKings)

My analysis

We easily cashed an Under 8 at even money in Friday night’s game and are going right back to the Under 9 in tonight’s contest. The Philadelphia Phillies mustered just one run on six hits against the Cleveland Guardians, while the visitors scored three early runs to hold on for the victory.

The pitching matchup tonight does leave some room for concern with Carlos Carrasco facing off against rookie Tyler Phillips. Phillips has been great in the majors with just five earned runs in 16 innings (2.81 ERA), but he had a 4.89 ERA in 92 innings at Triple-A this year.

There is some worry that he could regress, but the Guardians have scored just 20 runs in seven games since the All-Star break. Additionally, there have been nine runs or fewer in 15 of Cleveland’s last 18 games and nine of the last 12 for Philadelphia.

Carrasco is coming off one of his worst starts of the year with six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Still, he’s largely been reliable for the Guardians with three earned runs or fewer in 13 of 18 starts. Add in the Guardians bullpen’s MLB-best 2.48 ERA, and you have a recipe for an Under.

Trea Turner 1+ hits

I’m going back to the well on the Under, Phillies moneyline, and Trea Turner to get a hit in tonight’s game. Turner has been stellar since returning from the IL with Friday night’s loss being just the sixth time in his last 31 games that he was held hitless.

Carrasco is susceptible to giving up a few runs and Phillips has been solid in limited MLB innings. Home-field advantage is also on the Phillies’ side tonight.
