The stars came out to play in Game 1 of the NLDS between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers as both Fernando Tatis Jr. and Shohei Ohtani delivered for their respective clubs.
I’m expecting both players to stay hot in Game 2 as I look for Tatis Jr. to record 2+ total bases while Ohtani snags another multi-hit game.
MLB props for October 6
- Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 total bases (+110 at bet365)
- Ohtani Over 1.5 hits (+190 at bet365)
- Flaherty Over 1.5 walks allowed (+100 at bet365)
Today’s best MLB props
Prop bet #1: Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 total bases
Fernando Tatis Jr. started his postseason on the right foot, snagging four hits, seven total bases, and two RBI in the San Diego Padres’ two-game sweep of the Braves during the NL Wild Card series.
The 25-year-old followed that up with two hits and three total bases in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and I’ll look for him to record multiple bases for the fourth straight outing in Game 2.
Tatis Jr. was an extra-base monster in September, recording 14 extra-base hits (7 doubles, 7 HR) in 22 games while leading the Padres with 52 total bases. He finished off the regular season with multiple bases in 14 of his last 21 games, and his 10 total bases this postseason trail only Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio (11) for the most among all players.
The right-hitting Tatis Jr. has actually enjoyed more success vs right-handed pitching this season, so a matchup against Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty bodes well for him tonight. Tatis Jr. is batting .293 with a .547 slugging percentage against righties, compared to just .225/.327 vs. lefties this season.
Prop bet #2: Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 hits
I rode the Shohei Ohtani hype train in my player props for Saturday, and the two-time MVP delivered, notching two hits, a homer, and three RBI to lead the Dodgers to an early lead in the NLDS.
I’ll go back to the well tonight as I look for Showtime to notch another multi-hit outing.
Going back to mid-September, Ohtani has posted 2+ hits in eight of his last 11 outings — a span that includes three multi-hit games and eight total hits in four meetings vs the Padres.
Ohtani also dominated the Padres this season, batting .326 with 15 hits against San Diego. He posted more hits against only two other teams — the Rockies (24) and Giants (16).
Prop bet #3: Jack Flaherty Over 1.5 walks allowed
Jack Flaherty gets the nod for the Dodgers tonight as they look to take a 2-0 series lead against the Padres, but the right-hander had some control issues to close out the regular season.
Flaherty took a no-decision in his final start of the season, coincidentally against the Padres, where he gave up four hits and three earned runs over just five innings of work. The Dodgers starter also walked three batters that game, marking the sixth time in eight appearances that he allowed 2+ walks.
That’s been a trend for a while now as Flaherty recorded 12 walks in five games through September, tied for 10th-most among all MLB pitchers and just two back of the leaders.
The Padres were disciplined in Game 1 with six bases on balls, including two vs. starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the first three innings, so Flaherty could walk a few early if he’s not careful.
