Giancarlo Stanton and the New York Yankees have put the rest of the MLB on notice. The Bronx Bombers are back. Stanton and the Yanks are bashing baseballs again and creating value in the MLB prop betting market all at once when they take on Patrick Corbin and the Washington Nationals.

Meanwhile, can the Oakland Athletics summit Dick Mountain in the opener of their series against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays? We break down and pick those games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Friday, May 7.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Yankees Team Total Over 4.5 (-135)

Led by Giancarlo Stanton, the Bronx Bombers are once again living up to their name. While the New York Yankees are coming off a loss to the Houston Astros, they head into their weekend series with the Washington Nationals bashing baseballs. The Yankees are plating 5.56 runs per game over their last nine games going 7-2 over that stretch.

No one is slugging baseball with more ferocity right now than Stanton. The Yankees’ outfielder extended his hit streak to 12 games with yet another dinger. Stanton is now hitting an even .500 with five homers and 10 RBIs over that stretch. (Consider betting him to hit a HR at +225 as well) Now, he and the Yanks get to go up against the Nationals’ Patrick Corbin.

Corbin has bounced back a bit after a rough start to the season but is still struggling with his command. The lefty has allowed nearly as many walks (14) as strikeouts (18) and giving the Yankees extra base runners is never a good idea. Bet the Yanks’ to keep bombing in this one.

Matt Shoemaker Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-120)

When you think of starters to go Over their strikeout totals the Minnesota Twins’ Matt Shoemaker is probably not the guy who comes to mind. Shoemaker is struggling and has only recorded two strikeouts over his last three starts.

But that has created some value for bettors. Shoemaker’s strikeout total today against the Detroit Tigers is a low 4.5, and the Tigers strike out more than anyone in baseball, getting punched out 10.59 times per game. Over the last three games, that number jumps up to 11.33.

Shoemaker also opened his season back on April 5 against this same Tigers team, where he allowed just one run on three hits and struck out five over six innings of work. Maybe a matchup with the Tigers is just what Shoemaker needs to break himself out of this funk.

A's Team Total Over 3.5 (-130)

After a rocky start to the season, good ol’ Dick Mountain himself, Rich Hill has been really spinning it for the Tampa Bay Rays over his last two starts. The veteran lefty has allowed just two runs on three hits while striking out 14 over his last nine innings of work, which includes six innings of two-hit ball and 10 Ks against this same A’s team recently, on April 26.

But prior to that, Hill had allowed exactly four runs in each of his first four starts and allowed opponents to hit nearly .300 over that span. It’s fair to expect Hill actually falls somewhere in between these two trends, and with a team total of 3.5 for the A’s, that’s good enough to look at the Over.

Additionally, the A’s have scored 4.67 runs per game over their last six contests, plating four or more runs in each of those games. Also, last game against Hill aside, Oakland has hit much better against left-handed pitchers compared to righties this season. Bet them to get Over this low team total in this one.
