It’s a light day on the diamond with just seven games on the MLB schedule. But that doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty of baseball betting value to be found in the player prop market.
Today, we highlight Cubs rookie Seiya Suzuki, who will look to stay hot against the Reds. The White Sox will look to take advantage of another southpaw in Oakland. And Sandy Alcantara will try to put the feather in his Cy Young cap with another impressive — and long — start against the Phillies.

Suzuki is back on track
Chicago Cubs rookie Seiya Suzuki is once again finding his groove and looking like the guy who came flying out of the gates to start the year. He’ll look to keep racking up the knocks when he takes the field this afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds.
Suzuki has been locked in at the plate since the end of August and is hitting .356 with a .920 OPS over his last 12 games, which includes six multi-hit affairs over that span.
Today, he’ll step up to the plate and see veteran Luis Cessa taking the mound for the Reds. Cessa makes his fourth straight start for the Reds after spending most of the season as the team’s long reliever.
Over the last three starts, Cessa owns a respectable 4.09 ERA but the right-hander could be in for some regression, as his FIP is a much higher 7.20 in those games and is surrendering a .275 batting average to opponents.
Additionally, a long outing for Cessa would be five innings. Then he’ll have to hand the ball off to a Reds bullpen that ranks dead last in the MLB when it comes to ERA. At +130, Suzuki is a great value to stay hot and go Over 1.5 total bases.
Seiya Suzuki Prop: Over 1.5 total bases (+130)
Sandy goes long
The last time Sandy Alcantara was coming off a tough start all he did was pitch a complete game against the best team in baseball — the Los Angeles Dodgers, giving up just one run on six hits while striking out 10. Now, Alcantara will try to repeat that performance when he takes the ball for the Miami Marlins against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Alcantara got roughed by the Atlanta Braves last time out, surrendering six runs on three hits, which included three home runs, in a start that lasted just five innings. Yes, that qualifies as a short outing for Alcantara who averages 7.06 innings per start this season.
Despite a couple of un-Alcantara-like performances in his last three starts, the right-hander is still the sizeable betting favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award. Alcantara owns an expected ERA of 2.97 and limits opponents to a .215 expected batting average.
But a big part of the reason Alcantara is favored to win the Cy Young is his old-school ability to consistently pitch deep into ball games. He leads MLB with four complete games and has completed seven innings in 18 of his 27 starts and should work late into tonight’s game against the Phillies.
Alacantara has made four starts against Philadelphia this season. He has a 3.03 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in those starts. The shortest of which lasted 6 1-3 innings. The other three went 7 2-3, 8, and 7 2-3, respectively. His outs recorded prop for this one is on the board at 19.5, meaning 6 2-3 innings cashes for us. Over.
Sandy Alcantara Prop: Over 19.5 outs recorded (-110)
Expired Sears catalogue
The 2022 season has not gone as planned for the Chicago White Sox. Most baseball pundits would tell you this is the most talented roster in the American League Central but it just hasn’t played out that way.
The White Sox are just 69-68 for the season and will need to snag the division title if they hope to make the postseason. But despite all their struggles, the Pale Hose continue to do one thing well. And that’s crush southpaws. They’ll try to continue that trend when they visit the Oakland A’s tonight.
Chicago ranks second in batting average (.274), seventh in OPS (.771) and fourth in wRC+ (121) when facing off against left-handed hurlers this season. Tonight, they’ll dig in against A’s lefty JP Sears.
The rookie was one of the prospects traded from the Yankees in the Frankie Montas deal. Since getting to Oakland, the A’s have made Sears a full-time starter and the results have been promising. The southpaw has a 2.63 ERA over his first five starts.
However, there is room for some regression there. Sears’ FIP number is over a full run higher at 3.88 and is surrendering a .270 batting average to opposing hitters since his arrival by the Bay.
Sears has also allowed six or more hits in three straight starts. Back the White Sox lineup to make it four in a row.
JP Sears Prop: Over 5.5 hits allowed (-105 at DraftKings)
