The Tampa Bay Rays belted four dingers in a 9-1 thumping of the New York Yankees Saturday afternoon. New York turns to Marcus Stroman to get back in the win column Sunday, in the third of a four-game set between these AL East rivals.

Rays vs Yankees prediction

My best bet

My analysis
Marcus Stroman will be facing the Tampa Bay Rays in consecutive starts after closing the first half of the season against them in Tampa. Stro lasted 4 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits, but allowed just one earned run while walking two and striking out two in a game the New York Yankees eventually won 2-1.

That’s easily his best start over the last five, as he's allowed 3+ earned runs in the previous four outings, going 1-2 in the process. New York’s offense likely won’t go quiet in back-to-back games, as they lead the Big Leagues in runs scored, putting up nearly 5.0 per contest.

The Yankees have only been held to a run or less 13 times this season, and in the previous 12, they’ve averaged 5.25 runs the next game. Tampa will turn to third-year man Shane Baz, making his third start of the season. He last pitched against these Yanks in the final series before the All-Star break and got roughed up.

Baz allowed six hits and three earned runs, two via the home run, while striking out five and walking one in 4 1/3 innings, in a game Tampa eventually won 5-4.

The Rays’ nine-run outburst in Saturday’s blowout was a much-needed offensive shot in the arm for a team that ranks Bottom 4 in runs scored on the season. Prior to that win, Tampa had averaged 2.3 runs over the last 10 games, scoring two or fewer runs seven times.

I think their offense reverts to the pop-gun hitting unit we’ve seen throughout the first half of the season, with the Yankees finding their way back into the win column.

Rays vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Yankees moneyline

Aaron Judge Over 1.5 total bases

Randy Arozarena Over 0.5 doubles

It’s been a quiet few games for Aaron Judge, who went 0-for-2 Saturday with a walk and a strikeout. Over the last four games, Judge has just two hits and an RBI. It’s just a small sample, but in his five at-bats against Baz, Judge has a home run off him.

Judge usually produces during day games, hitting .319 with 10 homers and 19 extra-base hits. He’s also hitting righties at a .307 clip.

Randy Arozarena is coming off a monster outing, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored. He now has hits in 15 of his last 17 games. He also clubbed his 18th double of the season, giving him doubles in consecutive games. We’ll gladly run it back for a third straight effort for this amount of juice.

Arozarena also has a double off Stroman in his 10 career at-bats.
