The New York Yankees hope to shake a four-game losing streak and are heavy favorites to do so when they welcome the red-hot Boston Red Sox for Game 2 of their three-game series.

Red Sox starter Josh Winckowski takes the mound today, and his matchup with Yankees starter Gerrit Cole will be the focus for this afternoon’s best bet and SGP ticket. Read on for my Red Sox vs. Yankees predictions and MLB picks for the Red Sox and Yankees for Saturday, July 6.

Red Sox vs Yankees prediction

My best bet
Josh Winckowski Over 3.5 strikeouts (+110 at BetMGM)

My analysis

The Boston Red Sox won their fifth consecutive game to take Game 1 of their three-game series with the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox plan for righty Josh Winckowski to make the start and he’s been in and out of the Boston rotation. He’s allowed two earned runs across his past 11 frames (two home starts), with one strikeout in his latest effort against the San Diego Padres and eight against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old righty has a couple of things going for him today; he’s beginning to pitch deeper into ballgames across the past two weeks, and the Yankees’ strikeout rate against righties has spiked 2% from their 20% season average.

If Winckowski goes five innings, he’ll get four strikeouts. The Yankees have scored 11 runs across their last four and they will be pressing. The Red Sox hurler could see as many as five hitters today with strikeout rates above 22% and Winckowski is whiffing eight per nine away from Fenway Park.

Winckowski is primarily a groundball pitcher and if he can keep the ball in the yard (0.51 HRs per nine), and I believe that he will, Winckowski will see enough action to clear 4+ strikeouts today.

Red Sox vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Josh Winckowski Over 3.5 strikeouts

Rafael Devers Over 1.5 total bases

Boston moneyline

Winckowski getting strikeouts is my best bet and if the righty along with Boston 3B Rafael Devers have big days, the Red Sox win this game.

Devers went hitless on Friday, but he’s cleared 1.5 total bases in three of his previous five and is 12-for-38 lifetime with seven bombs and a double against Yankees starter Gerrit Cole.

Cole makes his fourth start today and he his xERA (6.32) and 5.53 xFIP off his 6.23 ERA are less than encouraging. Nine earned runs across 13 frames doesn’t lend much confidence.

Boston is riding a five-game winning streak, has won three of their past four against N.Y., and are slashing .247/.330/.642/.972 with 10 bombs in 81 career at bats against Cole.
