American League East rivals Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees close out their four-game set this afternoon, and Baltimore is looking to win three of four.
My Yankees vs Orioles predictions for May 2 are focusing on the hot bat of Adley Rutschman rather than a side, and you can find out why in my MLB picks below.

My analysis
The Baltimore Orioles can still win this series, but they’ll need a big afternoon from Adley Rutschman.
The Orioles catcher and sometimes designated hitter has been hot; he was held hitless Wednesday night for the first time in 11 games. His platoon splits against left-handed pitching suggest he has an excellent opportunity to begin a new hitting streak today against New York Yankees lefty Carlos Rodon.
Rutschman has been raking this season against everyone, but he’s particularly hammered lefties. The Orioles catcher has 23 hits with a .647 slugging percentage against port-siders with a low strikeout rate (12.4%) and a 4% walk rate.
That bodes well for Rutschman this afternoon against Rodon. The Yankees hurler is usually around the plate with his four-seamer/slider combo. His newfound cutter has helped Rodon register more strikeouts, but he won’t fool Rutschman with that pitch or any other today as the Orioles All-Star catcher hits Rodon’s trifecta of pitches as well as anyone in baseball.
Adley is batting .457 with a .513 wOBA against left-handed pitching and meets a southpaw who’s served up three bombs with 19 hits across 114 total righties faced.
Rutschman has smashed lefties throughout his career and cleared his total bases prop number in four of his last five. Rodon boasts an xFIP nearly two runs higher than his ERA with a high flyball rate and is known to make mistakes against right-handed hitters.
Yankees vs Orioles same-game parlay (SGP)
Orioles’ catcher James McCann enters Thursday riding a six-game hitting streak. McCann hits lefties well and is batting .333 this season at Oriole Park. He also has a couple of hits with a bomb across 13 at bats against Rodon and should be good for a hit today, as should Baltimore IF Jordan Westburg.
Westburg is riding a four-game hitting streak and boasts a 68.2% hard-hit rate against lefties throwing four-seamer fastballs. His .302 wOBA against left-handed pitching suggests the right-handed slugger has been a bit unlucky — look for that luck to change on a hot day in Baltimore.
