The San Francisco Giants (6-1) look to keep up their winning ways as they host the Seattle Mariners (3-5) at Oracle Park for Game 2 of their series.
With 20+ mph winds blowing out to center field and two fly ball pitchers on the mound, I’m taking a closer look at the total with my Mariners vs. Giants predictions and MLB picks for Saturday, April 5.
Mariners vs Giants prediction
My Mariners vs Giants best bet: Over 7.5 (-105 at DraftKings)
There’s notable weather in the forecast at Oracle Park tonight, with winds of 20 to 21 mph expected to be blowing out directly to center field.
That turns a projected pitcher’s duel between Bryce Miller of the Seattle Mariners and Robbie Ray of the San Francisco Giants into a game of uncertainty.
Miller made waves a year ago in Seattle, notching a 2.94 ERA across 180 1/3 IP in his age-25 season. A glance at his home-road splits (1.96 ERA at home, 4.07 ERA on the road) indicates he benefitted greatly from playing in a pitcher-friendly park.
The Texas A&M product faces a San Francisco lineup with good results against right-handed pitching to start the year (111 wRC+ and .321 wOBA). The Giants are 5-2 O/U through their first seven games and are fresh off a 10-run outing in Game 1.
Ray was hit hard in his 2025 debut, surrendering three earned across 5 1/3 IP against Cincinnati. He was snake-bit by the long ball, allowing two home runs, and that’s a concern given his projected 39.2% ground ball rate.
His counterpart, Miller, is also a fly-ball pitcher who posted a 28th percentile ground ball rate a year ago. Combine that with a 14th percentile barrel rate and 14th percentile average exit velocity, and it wouldn’t be surprising if some of those fly balls turn into extra-base hits or home runs on Saturday.
Both bullpens are taxed after a 10-9 San Francisco win in 11 innings on Friday night. Seattle ran through eight arms in relief after getting just three innings from starter Luis Castillo, while San Francisco used seven relievers (all of whom threw at least one full inning) after Justin Verlander recorded only seven outs.
These teams have gone 7-2 O/U in their last nine meetings at Oracle Park, and I’m betting on another high-scoring affair.
Mariners vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)
Books are offering plus money on Randy Arozarena eclipsing 1.5 total bases despite him having the platoon advantage and the weather greatly favoring hitters. Sign me up.
Arozarena has favorable splits against lefties, posting a 137 wRC+ against them a year ago. If you isolate for away games against LHP, his wRC+ rises to 146, and his ISO reaches .211.
It might seem counterintuitive to play Ray’s strikeout prop in an SGP along with an Arozarena Over, but that’s what Ray does. He allows big hits and strikes out plenty of batters, oftentimes in the same outing.
Ray posted a 33.3% K rate in his 30-inning cameo with San Francisco a year ago and has finished above 27% every season since 2015. Seattle has been a strikeout machine against LHP (29% K rate), so this is a good spot for the southpaw to get a decent amount of punchouts.
