Great American Getaway 400 field
We're seeing a stark distribution for the Great American Getaway 400 odds. While a big chasm between favorites and longshots — like we see this week — has been fairly common this year, rarely has it been laid out quite like this.
Seven drivers, a high tally, are available at 9:1 or better, with five drivers plateauing between 22:1 and 25:1, before a massive (even by 2024 standards) drop to 80:1.
Leading the way is Denny Hamlin, who has an astounding seven wins here, including last year's edition of this race. However, he's slumping on the season, with no Top-10 finishes in his past five races, his longest such stretch of 2024.
Kyle Larson plays bridesmaid this week, sitting slightly behind Hamlin on most odds boards. Larson wrecked while battling Hamlin for the lead last year, but had otherwise posted strong results on this track, seeking his first win.
Like Hamlin and Larson, Christopher Bell is looking to rebound from a disappointing finish on Chicago's street course last week, and had Top-9 results (including two wins) in five straight races prior to Nashville two weeks ago.

Odds listed below courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook as of 7-9-2024.
Great American Getaway 400 pre-qualifying favorites
Denny Hamlin (+400)
Pocono has been his playground. Hamlin has seven wins there, including three of the last seven overall. It would be eight wins and four of the last seven if not for a 2022 DQ. He was also runner-up in another race, making seven Top-6 finishes in his last nine Pocono tries.
Driver (+450)
Late-race contact battling Hamlin for the win a year ago relegated Larson to 20th at the end. Prior to that, he had seven Top-10 finishes in 10 tries, including fifth in 2022 and runner-up in 2021. Larson led 24 laps and won the second stage last July.
Christopher Bell (+650)
0-for-6 at Pocono but Bell also has three Top-6 finishes, including two in a row. On the season, Bell has five Top-10 finishes in the last seven weeks, including a pair of victories.
Great American Getaway 400 sleepers
Tyler Reddick (+750)
He was 11th, ninth, second, and second, respectively, in his last four Pocono starts. On the season, Reddick has six Top-8 finishes in the last seven weeks, including results of sixth, third, and second in last three.
Ty Gibbs (+1,400)
He finished fifth in his second Pocono start a year ago after leading four laps. Gibbs comes off of a third-place finish last Sunday in Chicago.
Bubba Wallace (+3,500)
He finished 11th last year, eighth the previous year, fifth the year prior to that, and is back again in a Toyota.
Great American Getaway 400 fades
Chase Elliott (+1,000)
Prior to the 2022 win that Elliott led zero laps in, he had no finishes better than fourth, and four of his last five had seen him finish 12th or worse. He finished 10th last year and has led 16 combined laps in his last 13 Pocono starts.
Ryan Blaney (+1,500)
Four of his last six Pocono finishes have been 12th or worse, including 33rd in 2022 and 30th in 2023.
Joey Logano (+2,200)
Was 20th and 35th the last two years and has just four Top-5 finishes in 28 tries here. His last Top 5 came back in 2016.
Great American Getaway 400 prop pick
Martin Truex Jr. Top-3 finish (+200)
He finished seventh and third, respectively, in the last two years. The two-time Pocono winner is consistent, and will put himself within striking distance of a win again.
Pick: Martin Truex Jr. Top-3 finish (+200 at DraftKings)

Pocono Raceway track analysis
On a triangle-shaped track, the best opportunities for passing are at the end of the three long straightaways. Pocono is annually a pretty straightforward race, with this being a very hard track to actually pass on.
Short pitting sometimes gains you track position later, but depending on cautions, could bite you too when factoring in tire life. Some drivers will elect to pit before the end of stages and give up stage points to restart up front at the next stage. Definitely a track position circuit for sure.
Toyota has won 72.7% of the last 11 Pocono races. They went 1-2 in 2022 before being disqualified. Did the egregious mistake make a difference? Hard to tell. That’s because they’ve been do dominant around the Tricky Triangle for the last decade.
That race, Toyota drivers led 66.2% of the laps (106-of-160). Joe Gibbs Racing led 102 of those 106 laps with all four drivers leading at least two laps. Kyle Busch led a race-high 63, Denny Hamlin led 21, Christopher Bell 14, and Martin Truex Jr. 2.
In the second race of the 2021 doubleheader weekend, all four once again led laps with Busch leading 30, Truex Jr. 19, Bell 3, and Hamlin 1.
Last year, Toyota rallied to finish 1-2-3-5-6 with leading 48 of 160 laps.
With how strong that they’ve been on this track, is this their race to lose?
