The NASCAR field thinned even more after last Sunday's Round of 12 at the Bank of America ROVAL 400 in Charlotte. Reigning champion Kyle Larson was eliminated from contention in the Cup Series playoff standings along with Austin Cindric and Daniel Suarez. Alex Bowman is also out of contention after missing the last two races of the second round due to a concussion.

The Round of 8 kicks off at the South Point 400 in Las Vegas this Sunday. It's the first of three races before the championship on November 6.

Check out our South Point 400 odds for October 16 to see where the remaining contenders — and those looking to play spoiler — stand.

South Point 400 pre-race favorites

Denny Hamlin (+550)

Hamlin is near the bottom of the playoff standings, sitting in seventh entering the Round of 8 as he continues his pursuit of winning his first Cup Series title. He won last year's South Point 400 and finished third the year prior.

Hamlin needs a good showing at Las Vegas and he's performed well there in recent editions of the race. He hasn't won since the Coca-Cola 600 at the end of May.

Christopher Bell (+800)

Bell emerged victorious in Charlotte, essentially saving his season and propelling him to the Top 4 in the playoff standings. He's not out of the woods yet, however, as a poor showing or two in the next three races could dash his hopes entirely.

Still, in just his third year on the circuit, this has to be viewed as a substantial breakout as he's now won multiple races for the first time. Bell finished in 24th in each of the last two editions of the South Point 400 but is riding high after his big win last weekend.

Chase Elliott (+800)

Elliott remains the playoff points leader heading into the Round of 8 despite not living up to his favorite status in a 20th-place finish at the Bank of America ROVAL 400 last weekend.

He has had mixed results at the Las Vegas Speedway, finishing second in 2021 and 22nd in 2020. He finished fourth in 2019 and 36th in 2018. Elliott is in the — ahem — driver's seat and a victory Sunday would go a long way towards his pursuit of a second Cup Series championship.

How to bet on NASCAR

The most popular way to bet on NASCAR is by simply picking the winner of a race, which is also referred to as an outright. There are plenty of other ways to wager, including betting on whether or not a driver will finish in the Top 3 or Top 10 of a race.

Another popular betting option is head-to-head matchup betting, where sportsbooks pair up two drivers and you choose who you think will finish better in the race, which is far easier than trying to select someone to win out of a field of approximately 40 drivers.
