Bulls vs Clippers picks and predictions
Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.
Spread analysis
The Bulls didn’t look great in their first game without Vucevic, losing by 26 on the road against Golden State. It’s hard to judge Chicago too harshly for that loss, as DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine didn’t play well, while Golden State (11-1) continued to hit absolutely everything.
One of the reasons Chicago is a solid play tonight is that it has a very good defensive backcourt, which includes Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso hounding opposing ballhandlers together. Caruso doesn’t start, but he should see around 30 minutes tonight, and when those two share the floor together, it’s going to be extremely tough for the Los Angeles guards to score.
That can really take the team out of rhythm, as Reggie Jackson has been one of the main reasons this team is thriving lately — he's averaging 21.3 points and 4.6 assists per game over the course of the team’s winning streak.
Offensively, Chicago clearly missed having Vucevic as a key cog in the offense, but the team should shoot play a lot better than it did against Golden State. DeRozan, who is normally very good when he gets to his spots, shot just 4 of 13 from the field and finished with 18 points. Meanwhile, LaVine had seven turnovers against the Warriors and isn’t likely to repeat that feat here.
On top of that, Caruso and Ball were a combined 1 for 11 from the outside. Those two are more than capable of knocking down open looks, and we should see a much more competitive Bulls team tonight.
Prediction: Bulls +4.5 (-118)
Over/Under analysis
If you can still find the total in this game at 217.5, that’s something you’ll want to jump on. However, it should be fine if you have to play the number at 217 or even 216.5. While the Clippers have surprisingly gone Over the total in four games in a row, the Under is 7-5 in Bulls games this season.
Despite having explosive transition players like DeRozan and LaVine, the Bulls are just 15th in pace this season and generally like to operate in half-court situations. Meanwhile, the Clippers are seventh in the league in pace, but they aren’t likely to remain in the Top 10 all year.
They are yet another team that likes to play a bit slower. These teams are also both in the Top 7 when it comes to defensive rating, so it’s not likely that either one of these groups explodes offensively tonight.
The Under is also 16-7 when Los Angeles has played at home with a total between 210 and 219.5 over the last three seasons.
Prediction: Under 217.5 (-112)
Best bet
Like the total, it might be difficult to find this number at 4.5, but there’s nothing wrong with playing the Bulls as a 4-point underdog either. This Chicago team has the right makeup to deal with an extremely tough Los Angeles group and the Bulls should be able to keep this close.
In fact, don’t be too surprised if it comes down to the final possession, with Chicago ultimately having a good shot to win the game outright.
Over the last two seasons, Chicago is 15-4 ATS in road games when coming off a non-conference game. At the same time, the Clippers are just 5-14 ATS in games with a total between 210 and 219.5 in that time. They’re also just 3-6 SU and 4-5 ATS when coming off a home win by 20 points or more.
Pick: Bulls +4.5 (-118)
