Hawks vs 76ers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Defense isn't in Philadelphia's vocabulary, and Atlanta will pile on the points while giving up plenty itself.

The Atlanta Hawks will try to work towards securing a favorable position in the Play-In tournament as they visit the Philadelphia 76ers tonight.

These teams have been hitting the Over with regularity lately, and I’m backing that trend to continue in my Hawks vs. 76ers predictions.

Let’s look at how to approach tonight’s matchup in my free NBA picks for Friday, April 11.

Hawks vs 76ers prediction

My best bet: Over 240.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Atlanta Hawks have been on a scoring binge as of late. It hasn’t always favored the Hawks; they're just 4-6 in their last 10 games overall, and haven’t won a game in which they scored less than 120 points since Feb. 24.

But when the Hawks don’t score, at least their opponents do. This is largely a function of pace, as while Atlanta isn’t particularly notably good on offense or terrible on defense, it is among the leaders in possessions per game — ranking in the Top 3 on most pace metrics this season.

The result has been a lot of Over results for the Hawks. The Over is 10-2-1 in Atlanta’s last 13 games overall, and on five of those occasions, the total has gone above 240 points. That includes the last matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers, in which the two teams combined for 251 points in a shootout.

It helps the 76ers have also moved to a higher-scoring style of play as the season as worn on. Having Paul George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey out for the season has certainly not been good for the Philadelphia offense, but it’s been an absolute disaster defensively. Since early March, the Over is 14-5-1 in Sixers games, and Philadelphia has only won in three.

Unlike Atlanta, the 76ers don’t play at a fast pace. However, they're notably bad defensively, and those problems have only exacerbated themselves as the roster has gotten thinner.

Philadelphia probably isn’t proud of the 115.7 ppg allowed for the season, but that number continues to rise, with the Sixers allowing 117.3 ppg over the past 10 contests.

As the scoring numbers continue to rise on both sides of this matchup, it becomes harder to imagine that it’s even possible for these teams to play a low-scoring affair against each other. Even when Trae Young — an absolutely critical piece of the Atlanta offense — missed the first meeting between these teams, they still combined for 255 points last month.

I see no reason to expect anything different from these squads tonight.

Hawks vs 76ers same-game parlay

Over 240.5

Hawks -10.5

Trae Young Over 40.5 points+rebounds+assists

The 76ers managed to break their 12-game losing streak on Wednesday, but this is still a team that isn’t fielding a quality NBA roster and only managed to beat the team with the worst record in the Eastern Conference.

The Hawks are motivated to win tonight, and I expect them to cover by making sure this game is out of reach late.

Trae Young, one of the most dynamic offensive creators in the league, will lead that effort. I’m taking Young to hit the Over on his combined points, assists, and rebounds total, something he’s done in five of his last eight games and in his prior meeting with the Sixers this year.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
