Latest NBA Picks

The Toronto Raptors appear to be just running out the clock on the 2023-24 NBA season.

Toronto has lost seven games in a row, covering the spread just twice over that stretch. Things won’t get any easier tonight, as the NBA odds have them as double-digit home underdogs against the visiting Sacramento Kings.

Can the Raps put up a fight, or will they get crowned by the Kings? Here are my NBA picks and predictions for Kings vs. Raptors on Wednesday, March 20.

Kings vs Raptors predictions

I have spent much of 2024 harping on the fact that the Toronto Raptors have been terrible defensively. In fact, the only team with a worse defensive rating than the Raptors since January 1 is the Utah Jazz.

But with the injury to Scottie Barnes, it’s not just the defense that is suffering. The offense has cratered as well, with Toronto ranking dead last in offensive rating and 25th in effective field goal percentage over nine games in March.

The Raptors are putting up just 107.4 points per game over that stretch. In addition to Barnes' absence, Jakob Poeltl has been sidelined, RJ Barrett is currently away from the team due to personal matters, and now Immanuel Quickley is out as well.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings are playing surprisingly good defense at the moment. They rank sixth in the NBA in D-rating this month, allowing 111.6 ppg.

The Raptors’ team total is sitting at 110.5. They have played below this number in three straight and in five of nine games played this month, and the Kings have held opponents below that number in four straight contests.

Things are ugly in Toronto right now and you’ll be able to tell by looking at the scoreboard tonight.

My best bet: Raptors team total Under 110.5 (-115 at PointsBet)

Kings vs Raptors same-game parlay

Raptors team total under 110.5

Domantas Sabonis over 15.5 rebounds

Malik Monk Over 18.5 points

The Raptors are doing a lot of things poorly right now, but one of the areas they struggle the most is on the glass. The Raptors rank next to last in rebounding rate and 25th in opponent rebounds per possession since January 1.

It may seem nuts that Domantas Sabonis has a rebounding prop sitting at a sky-high 15.5, but I’m here to tell you it may not be high enough. Sabonis is averaging 16.9 rebounds over his last eight games, hauling down 16 or more boards five times in that stretch.

With all the potential bricks the Raptors could be firing up tonight, this big number isn’t scaring me away from the Over. Plus, our Covers prop projections have him at 15.8 rebounds tonight.

Let’s close this SGP out with Malik Monk to eclipse 8.5 points. Monk is already averaging 19.6 points per game since the start of February and should get more of a run with Kevin Huerter out.

Did I mention the Raptors’ defense stinks?

When his dreams of becoming the next Steve Nash died, all Andrew “Taco” Caley wanted to do was write about sports, something he’s been doing at Covers for more than a decade. A Journalism School grad from Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Andrew previously worked at The Chronicle Herald and Star Metro, but knew in his heart that his future lay in sports. He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can’t be friends with you if you don’t appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
