The Atlanta Hawks know they’re Play-In bound, but they'll look to make up ground for the No. 7 seed when they take on the New York Knicks.

However, my Knicks vs. Hawks predictions will focus on the total and explain why it's too high a task for these teams to surpass it.

Read all about it in my NBA picks for April 5.

Knicks vs Hawks prediction

My best bet: Under 236.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
We’ve finally heard progress on the Jalen Brunson front.

He practiced Friday, though he’s still listed as questionable, and will likely miss his 15th straight game since badly spraining his ankle in an OT loss to the Lakers on February 1.

The New York Knicks have been treading water since he’s been gone, especially on offense. The Knicks are scoring just 111 points per game in his absence, a testament to how much Brunson contributes as a scorer and central hub.

Fortunately, New York has stayed strong on the defensive side, allowing just 107.6 points per game over that same stretch, which ranks sixth overall in the league.

New York still has an All-Star in Karl-Anthony Towns, averaging 24.5 points and grabbing 10.4 rebounds in the last 13 games.

However, KAT makes the spread unpredictable, as he could single-handedly turn a game on its head by either balling out or seriously underperforming.

Because of that volatility, I’d suggest taking the total. The Under has cashed in two of the last three head-to-head meetings, with the Knicks cashing the Under in three straight.

The Atlanta Hawks have seen the Over go 7-2-1 over their last 10, but New York’s defense should be able to hang tough and keep the score low again between these clubs.

Knicks vs Hawks same-game parlay

Under 236.5

Trae Young Over 11.5 assists

Karl-Anthony Towns Over 11.5 rebounds

Trae Young leads the NBA at 11.6 assists per game, and he’s gone for at least 12 assists in six straight games, while hitting double-digit assists in nine of his last 11.

He’s had some massive assist games against New York this year, including 19 dimes in the double-OT, while touching 10 assists in six of his last seven against the Knicks.

As for KAT, he’s second in the NBA in boards, grabbing 12.8 per game. He has hit double-digit rebounds in seven straight, including 13 last game in a loss to the Cavaliers.

Towns has been scooping up boards by the bushel against the Hawks, going for at least 10 rebounds in 14 of his last 17 games vs. Atlanta.

There’s no reason Young or Towns slows down Saturday.
