Slice of Red Velvet
The Atlanta Hawks have won four straight games as they welcome the Brooklyn Nets to State Farm Arena tonight. Oddsmakers are expecting a shootout with a whopping Over/Under of 242, and one of the players that should help make this a high-scoring game is Kevin Huerter.
Huerter has dropped at least 20 points in four consecutive games and is shooting a sizzling 57.7% from the floor (including 60.6% from three-point range) during that span. While there's no way that shooting percentage is sustainable long term, we still like the Over on his points total today which is set at a modest 14.5.
We like Huerter to get his tonight against a Nets team that is 21st in the league in scoring defense with 112.2 points allowed per game.
Pick: Kevin Huerter Over 14.5 points (-105 at DraftKings)
Bam dominates on the boards
Miami's Bam Adebayo continues to make his claim for Defensive Player of the Year as the Heat head to the United Center to face off against the Bulls. The Bulls are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings but one area they have struggled in has been on the glass, where they rank 19th in the league in rebound rate.
Adebayo is averaging 10.3 rebounds per game and is coming off back-to-back contests where he controlled the glass. On Wednesday he grabbed 12 rebounds in a slow-paced contest against the Celtics, while on Sunday he snagged 15 boards versus Sacramento.
Expect Adebayo to hit the Over 9.5 on his rebounds total.
Pick: Adebayo Over 9.5 rebounds (-115 at Bet365)
Not Donovan's day
In the final game of the night, the Golden State Warriors host the Utah Jazz as 1.5-point favorites. The Jazz snapped a five-game losing streak on Friday night when they beat the Lakers 122-109. All-Star Donovan Mitchell led the way with 29 points and has been on a tear lately, dropping at least 25 points in nine of his last 10 games.
However, Mitchell has struggled against Golden State this season, going 5-14 from the field for 14 points in his last game against the Warriors and scoring 20 points on a miserable 4-19 shooting performance in the first meeting between these teams in January.
The Warriors had a few ugly defensive games earlier this week but they looked stout against Phoenix on Wednesday, holding the Suns to 107 points on 41% shooting. The Dubs are fifth in the league in scoring defense (105.7 ppg allowed) and have been particularly effective against opposing shooting guards, limiting them to 21.5 ppg on 41.8% shooting — both numbers Top 5 in the league.
We're taking the Under 26.5 on Mitchell's points total.
Pick: Donovan Mitchell Under 26.5 points (-112 at FanDuel)
