Today’s NBA Player Prop Picks: Brunson Takes Over

Our NBA player prop picks for tonight are zeroing in on Jalen Brunson, who should be poised to make the most of teammate Luka Doncic being tied up by the Pistons' Cade Cunningham. That plus a Marcus Smart assists number too appealing to ignore.

There are just a handful of games left in the NBA regular season, which means we are running out of opportunities to take advantage of the player prop market, but we're going to try and make the most of it.

Today, we look at a pair of point guards eager to contribute to their teams’ success in different ways. Plus, that elbow injury sure doesn’t look like it has affected Paul George’s shooting form, has it?

Check out our NBA player prop picks for Wednesday, April 6, as we bank on some of the NBA's best to do their thing.

Today’s best NBA player props

Brunson burner

The Dallas Mavericks have their sights set on the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference as they trail the Golden State Warriors by just one game in the standings. They’ll get a great opportunity to close that gap when they visit the Detroit Pistons tonight.

While the Mavs are a healthy 8.5-point road favorite for this matchup, it doesn’t mean the Pistons will be pushovers. In fact, the Pistons have gone 19-3 against the spread over their last 22 games.

This game also pits Luka Doncic against former No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham and while that will be the marquee matchup in this one, it may also open up an opportunity for one of Doncic’s teammates.

The Pistons have been very solid on the defensive end of the floor since coming out of the All-Star break and a lot of that has to do with the play of Cunningham. He might be a little busy with Doncic, so look for Jalen Brunson to step up with Luka otherwise occupied.

The guard is averaging 16.2 points per game this season, but that has bumped up to 17.2 since the start of March and he is shooting 50.5% from the floor over that 16-game span. He has also gone Over 15.5 points three times in the last five games and put up 21 in a game against the Pistons back on Feb. 8.

Look for Brunson to shoulder more of the scoring load in this one and go Over his points total in the process.

Pick: Jalen Brunson Over 15.5 points (-122)

Shop smart, shop Marcus Smart

Remember when the Chicago Bulls were in first place in the Eastern Conference? That feels like a lifetime ago. But their shaky-at-best defense has come back to bite them in the butt and they now sit in sixth as the season winds down.

The Bulls will be in tough against the Boston Celtics tonight. Boston has arguably been the best team in basketball since the end of January and has certainly been better than anyone on the defensive end of the floor.

But tonight, we’ll be looking at one of those great defenders to contribute on the other end of the floor. Marcus Smart has been dishing out the dimes with great prowess ever since the All-Star break. The Celtics guard is averaging 7.3 assists in his last 18 games, up from his season average of 5.9.

Now, he'll get a great matchup against a Bulls team that struggles to contain opposing guards. Not only do the Bulls give up a ton of points to guards but assists as well. Chicago allows the fourth-most assists per game to opposing guards since the all-star break.

The Bulls now have to play the second half of a back-to-back while the Celtics have been off since Sunday and should be nice and rested and close to fully healthy. Look for Smart to keep being a distributor against the stumbling Bulls and go Over his assists total of 6.5, a number he has eclipsed 12 times in his last 18 games and in seven of his last nine.

Pick: Marcus Smart Over 6.5 assists (+112)

Oh, George!

Well, it sure seems like the elbow injury that cost Paul George most of the season hasn’t affected his shooting form. George will look to show off that form when he and the Los Angeles Clippers host the Western Conference-leading Phoenix Suns.

George has gone an incredible 13-for-25 (52%) from beyond the arc in his first three games back with the Clippers, hitting five or more in two of those three games.

Meanwhile, the Suns are coming off a victory that ended the Lakers' season and stayed overnight in L.A. for a Hollywood back-to-back. On top of maybe having some heavy legs, Phoenix has been good, but not great at defending the 3-ball since the All-Star break, ranking 10th in opponent 3-point makes per game and 3-point shooting percentage.

The Suns also have the No. 1 seed in the West locked up, so they really don’t have a ton to play for here. Don’t be surprised if they rest some key guys.

The Clippers don’t have much to play for either for that matter but continuing to get George up to speed is a must heading into the play-in tournament. And they haven’t been afraid to give him a good run as he is averaging about 30 minutes per game since his return, making his made threes number is low enough to jump on the Over.

Pick: Paul George Over 2.5 made threes (-125)
