Allen wrench in Rockets' plans
Jarrett Allen has looked like an All-Star ever since missing three games in the middle of November and he’ll look to keep dominating when the Cleveland Cavaliers host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
In the 12 games since then, the Cavaliers center has been an absolute force to deal with on the inside, averaging 20.9 points hitting a ridiculous 73.1 percent of his attempts while hauling down 11.3 rebounds per game.
Now, he goes against a Rockets defense that has really struggled against opposing big men. Houston ranks 23rd in the NBA in points in the paint allowed and 17th in rebounding percentage.
Oddsmakers have set Allen’s points + rebounding total at 29.5 for this matchup, a number he has gone Over nine times over this 12-game stretch. He’s a solid bet to make it 10-of-13 after tonight’s game.
Pick: Jarrett Allen Over 29.5 Points + Rebounds (-105 at DraftKings)
Trae's treys
Some key injuries have clipped the Atlanta Hawks' wings a bit of late, as a result, they have dropped four of their last five games. But Trae Young has done his best to keep the Hawks soaring and maybe a date with the Orlando Magic is just what the team needs to get back on track.
The rebuilding Magic have lost 12 of their last 13 games and the young team has really struggled on the defensive end of the floor, ranking 29th in defensive rating. Defending the perimeter has also been a problem. Orlando gives up the 22nd most 3-point attempts per game while ranking 26th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage.
That should have Young licking his chops.
Young is jacking up 8.6 shots from deep per game over 18 games since Nov. 6, hitting a very good 43.8 percent of those attempts. He has also drained three or more threes 12 times over that stretch — which includes hitting three threes in his last matchup against the Magic — and is coming off a 5-9 performance against the Rockets on Monday.
Bet on Young to keep letting it fly in this matchup and take the Over on his made threes prop.
Pick: Trae Young Over 2.5 Made Threes (-140 at DraftKings)
Hunting the Wolves
It has been a tough season for the Denver Nuggets who have played without their second and third-best players this year. But it has shown how valuable Nikola Jokic truly is. Jokic has regained his MVP form since returning from a wrist injury at the end of November and he’ll try to keep dominating when the Nuggets host Northwest Division rivals the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jokic has been putting up 26.9 points per game on 57% shooting while adding 9.0 assists per game over his last eight games. But where the Joker has been really dominant has been on the glass.
Jokic is hauling down 14.3 rebounds per game over this eight-game stretch and has 15 or more boards four times over that sample. And in his lone other game against the T-Wolves this season, he grabbed a ridiculous 19 rebounds.
That shouldn’t be that shocking considering the Wolves ranking 25th in rebounding percentage and 28th in opponent rebounds per game. So, getting the Over on Jokic’s rebounding total of 12.5 looks like an early Christmas gift.
Pick: Nikola Jokic Over 12.5 Rebounds (-130 at FanDuel)
