Today’s NBA Player Prop Picks: Morant Carves Up Denver's Defense

An early ejection last time out snapped a steak of four straight double-digit assist games for Ja Morant. Tonight, he's up against a dreadful Denver defense that should give him plenty of chances to surpass his assist total of 8.5

There are just five games on the NBA betting board this Tuesday but with hundreds of player props available, there are still plenty of NBA odds to consider.

Today, I'm expecting Jazz big man Lauri Markannen to get buckets against a defensively inept Pistons side, backing Julius Randle on the boards, and betting on Ja Morant to have a bounce-back game after being ejected on the weekend.

Here are my best free NBA player prop picks for December 20.

Lauri's line is too low

The Utah Jazz will try to bounce back from a pair of lopsided defeats as they head to Detroit to take on the NBA-worst Pistons.

The normally high-scoring Jazz were held to 99 points by the Cavs last night but that poor offensive performance can't be blamed on power forward Lauri Markkanen, who finished with 24 points. Markkanen has been Utah's best player this season and is leading the team with 22.3 ppg while shooting a sizzling 53% from the floor.

The Pistons are second-last in the league in scoring defense (117.9 ppg) and have been even worse lately, surrendering at least 122 points in each of their last four games. With the Over/Under on Markkanen's points total today set at 20.5, a number he has eclipsed in six of his last eight games, hammer the Over.

Lauri Markkanen Prop: Over 20.5 points (-114)

Orange Julius

New York Knicks power forward Julius Randle has been a beast on the boards lately. Randle pulled down a season-high 17 rebounds against the Hawks two weeks ago and he's grabbed at least 12 rebounds in each of his last three games.

Today, he gets to face off against a Warriors team that is below-average on the glass and plays at the fastest pace in the league.

That should result in plenty of field-goal attempts and rebounding opportunities for both sides which has me playing the Over 9.5 rebounds for Randle.

Julius Randle Prop: Over 9.5 rebounds (+100)

Ja lends a helping hand

Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant is coming off a game where he was ejected just before halftime in a road loss to the Thunder. Morant had just two assists in 16 minutes during that contest which snapped a streak of four-straight games where he had racked up double-digit assists.

That included a game against Milwaukee's highly-rated defense last week, where he dropped 10 assists in just 26 minutes during a blowout victory.

Now, Morant and the Grizz head to Denver to take on a Nuggets team that ranks just 27th in the league in defensive rating. Denver has gotten torched by opposing points guards this season, allowing a league-high 27 points and the fourth-most assists per game (9.3) to the position.

The Nuggets are allowing 119.1 ppg in their last eight games and oddsmakers are expecting a shootout with the total installed at 234. A high-scoring game from the Grizz should mean lots of assists for Morant, who is poised for a bounce-back game.

Ja Morant Prop: Over 8.5 assists (-125)
