Hornets get Huert from range
Kevin Huerter has let it fly for the Atlanta Hawks recently, helping his team win three straight games, and he’ll look to keep soaring when he and the Hawks visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night.
Huerter has started to jack up more threes of late and has gotten into a groove. The Hawks’ shooting guard has put up 8.3 threes per game over the last four games, going 14-33 (42.4%) from beyond the arc over that span.
Now, he gets a buzz-worthy matchup tonight against the Hornets. Charlotte allows the second-most three-point attempts per game in the NBA while ranking 21st in opponent 3-point shooting percentage.
Huerter will get a great chance to keep that up those numbers when you combine that matchup with John Collins still expected to be sidelined for the next little while as he recovers from a finger injury, meaning more shots will be up for grabs.
Huerter has hit three or more threes, three times in the last four games and looks like a solid bet to make it four of five. Particularly when books are giving us plus money like this.
Pick: Kevin Huerter Over 2.5 made threes (+125)
Ayton ready for takeoff
The Phoenix Suns are a deep team. They have proven that since the All-Star break having to play without Chris Paul, who has been sidelined with a thumb injury.
But it seems like all of his teammates have stepped up in his absence, including center Deandre Ayton. The Suns' big man is primed for a big game when he and his teammates host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
Ayton is averaging 16.9 points per game this season but has bumped that up to 18.4 in the 11 games since coming out of the All-Star break while shooting 68.8% from the field.
Tonight, Ayton will get to work against a Houston team that really has a problem on defense, particularly when it comes to defending the interior. The Rockets rank dead last in the NBA in both scoring defense and points in the paint allowed per game.
Ayton has eclipsed 18.5 points six times in the 11 games since the All-Star break and put up 23 points against the Rockets just prior to the All-Star break. I love getting even money for him to go Over this number here tonight.
Pick: Deandre Ayton Over 18.5 points (+100)
Looney train has left the station
The Kevon Looney rebounding prop train was a fun ride while it lasted. But now Draymond Green is back.
So, the only course of action is to now fade Looney in the rebounding market. And that’s exactly what we’ll do tonight when the Golden State Warriors host the Boston Celtics.
Now, Green didn’t start and just played 20 minutes in his return to the Warriors lineup on Monday. But his impact on his team and the box score was immediate. Green grabbed seven boards while dishing out six assists in his return to action against the Wizards. And you know that even if Green doesn’t start this game, he will be soon and his minutes will surely increase.
Meanwhile, Looney logged 23 minutes grabbing seven rebounds in that game. But his rebounding numbers were already on the decline prior to Green’s return. In the first 15 games without Green, Looney averaged 10.9 rebounds per game. But that number dropped to 7.4 in the last 16 without him.
Looney’s minutes should continue to diminish as Green continues to work his way back in and 7.5 is a number he has gone below four times in his last six games. And it doesn’t hurt that the Celtics are a decent rebounding team, ranking 11th in rebounding percentage.
Pick: Kevon Looney Under 7.5 rebounds (-120)
