The Toronto Raptors head into tonight’s road matchup with the Boston Celtics having lost two in a row, but the early returns out of The Six have been promising.
The Raptors have been getting most of their praise on the defensive end of the floor. Toronto ranks ninth in defensive rating, is fourth in scoring defense, and leads the Association in deflections by a wide margin.
The Raps also do a great job cleaning up the glass, ranking third in rebounding percentage. They will be missing Khem Birch for this matchup, but we are going to focus on Raps’ rookie sensation Scottie Barnes.
The kid with a high basketball IQ and a ton of energy is averaging 8.7 rebounds per game this season, and we're getting his rebounding total at 6.5 for this matchup against the Celtics. This is a number he’s gone Over this number of boards seven times in his nine games.
Oh, and the Celtics? They're one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA. They rank 28th in rebounding percentage and 29th in opponent rebounds per game. Sign us up for the Over, please, and thanks.
Pick: Scottie Barnes Over 6.5 Rebounds (-120 at DraftKings)
Grayson letting it rain
The Milwaukee Bucks will be playing the second half of a back-to-back as they travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks tonight.
With no Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, and Donte DiVincenzo, the Bucks are lacking a bit of firepower that is much needed in these back-to-back scenarios. That said, one guy they have been able to rely on, outside of Giannis Antetokounmpo of course, has been Grayson Allen.
The shooting guard has thrived in his first season with the Bucks and their let-it-fly-from-deep style. Allen is shooting 41.5 from deep on a whopping 8.5 attempts per game. Wednesday, he goes up against a Knicks team that really struggles to defend the perimeter.
New York allows the second most 3-point attempts per game and ranks 23rd in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. With Allen hitting three or more threes in seven of his last eight games, he’s a great bet to go Over 2.5 makes tonight against the Knicks.
Pick: Grayson Allen Over 2.5 Made Threes (-132 at FanDuel)
Dame time to let it fly
It looks like Damian Lillard has decided the only way to get his way out of his early-season slump is, of course, to shoot his way out of it.
After beginning the season hitting just 21.7 percent of his 3-point attempts over his first nine games, Lillard has taken 27 threes over his last two games, hitting 10 of them. You can expect him to keep letting it fly as the Portland Trail Blazers visit the Phoenix Suns tonight.
The Suns, a little surprisingly, have been one of the worst teams in the NBA when it comes to defending the 3-ball this season. Suns opponents are taking 37 attempts from deep per game, and hitting 38.7 percent of those attempts. Only the Detroit Pistons are giving up a greater opponent 3-point percentage.
Lillard hit just two threes the last time he faced the Suns back on Oct. 23, but he only attempted seven shots from beyond the arc. He should have double-digit attempts in this one as he continues to shoot his way out of this funk.
Pick: Damian Lillard Over 3.5 Made Threes (-115 at DraftKings)
