Raptors vs 76ers Prediction, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The Toronto Raptors are already dealing with plenty of injuries to start the year, which means it's next man up. Tonight's Raps vs. Sixers prediction believes Davion Mitchell is in prime position to take advantage of the opportunity.

It is just game two of the NBA season and the Toronto Raptors’ roster already looks extinct. Luckily, the Philadelphia 76ers are almost as banged up. And my 76ers vs. Raptors predictions for this Atlantic Division matchup highlight a new Raps guard who will step up in this spot.

I break down Davion Mitchell's potential for a big game in my free NBA picks between Philadelphia and Toronto at 7:00 p.m. from Scotiabank Arena, live on TSN.

My analysis

The Toronto Raptors season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers was about as ugly as it gets. They were already down three key rotation pieces, RJ Barrett, Kelly Olynyk, Bruce Brown, and Ja’Kobe Walter. Then Immanuel Quickley got hurt and things got sideways fast.

You know it’s bad when you have a trio of rookies playing 15+ minutes. Toronto ended up losing that 136-106.

Yet, the Raptors are just 5-point home dogs against the visiting Philadelphia 76ers with Olynyk, Brown, and Walter all out, and Quickley and Barrett both doubtful to play. That’s because the Sixers have injury issues of their own.

Joel Embiid was on the load management plan even before the season started and will be out at least one more game after this one, while newly acquired Paul George is recovering from a knee injury he suffered in the preseason.

So, you can guess that Philly’s season-opener against Giannis, Dame, and the Milwaukee Bucks didn’t go too well either. Tyrese Maze did his best but the 76ers lost that game 124-109 allowing the Bucks to hit 16 3-pointers in the process.

All this to say, I’m focusing on Davion Mitchell’s point prop in this matchup. Mitchell was acquired in the offseason from the Sacramento Kings to be the backup point guard. A position the Raptors were very thin at last season. But it appears he’ll be thrust into the starting lineup if Quickley can’t go.

Mitchell went 4-10 for eight points in the loss to the Cavs and 0-3 from beyond the arc, but Mitchell hit a solid 36.1% of his attempts from deep last season so I like him to rebound here in this matchup against the Sixers. Maxey should be focused on scoring while Eric Gordon and Kyle Lowry don’t play much defense anymore.

Give me Mitchell to take advantage of this opportunity for added minutes and go Over his point total of 12.5 at even money.

Raptors vs 76ers same-game parlay (SGP)

Davion Mitchell Over 12.5 Points

Tyrese Maxey Under 29.5 Points

Kyle Lowry Over 4.5 Assists

While the 76ers are also banged up, this roster is still much better than the Raptors and Tyrese Maxey will be the best player on the court. That said. I wouldn’t be shocked if this was another situation where the Sixers didn’t have to try too hard in the fourth quarter.

So, with Maxey having an elevated point total without Joel Embiid and Paul George on the court and the potential for a lopsided Philly win, let’s add Maxey to stay Under his point total of 29.5.

And we can’t talk about the Philadelphia 76ers coming to Toronto without mentioning Kyle Lowry. The Greatest Raptor of All Time played 24 minutes off the bench in Philly’s opener and he looked like his vintage self, draining three threes and dishing out six assists. Look for him to keep being a playmaker in this one and add the Over 4.5 assists for Lowry.

Raptors vs 76ers spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Raptors opened this Atlantic Division matchup as 4.5-point home underdogs and it's the 76ers who have seen the most action with the line now Toronto +5.5.
  • Both teams have injury issues, but the Raptors' are worse. The 76ers will have the best player on the court in Tyrese Maxey and the Raptors have no depth with all of their injuries. I would lean to Philadelphia ATS here.
  • The total hit the board at 219.5 and it has been as low as 218 and as high as 220 but it sits back at the opening number as of Friday afternoon.
  • I lean toward the Over here. Both teams played shoddy defense with their depleted rosters in their respective openers and I would expect more of the same here.
