Raptors vs Pelicans picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

Spread analysis

The Pelicans are 22-34 SU (27-28 ATS) and are coming off back-to-back home losses, most recently falling 124-114 to San Antonio on Saturday. Trade deadline acquisition C.J. McCollum caught fire against the Spurs, dropping 36 points on 62.5% shooting while adding 11 rebounds and five assists.

McCollum and his 20.8 points per game should provide an offensive boost to the Pels, who rank just 25th in the league in offensive rating and desperately need better outside shooting. That said, he doesn't do much on the other end of the floor for a New Orleans team that sits 20th in defensive rating.

The Raptors are fresh off a 110-109 loss to the Nuggets, which snapped an eight-game winning streak where they went a perfect 8-0 ATS. The Raptors shot the ball well in that contest and turned the ball over just seven times but they got massacred on the glass by Nikola Jokic & Co. Toronto is now 31-24 SU (33-22 ATS) and in seventh place in an extremely competitive Eastern Conference.

Toronto struggled earlier in the season when it was dealing with injuries to key players and a COVID-19 spread in the locker room. But since getting healthy, the Raptors have surged up the standings. Since December 31, they have gone 17-7 SU and 18-6 ATS while ranking sixth in the NBA in offensive rating and 10th in defensive rating over that span.

The Raps are clearly the better team in this matchup and they have gone a sizzling 14-4 ATS when installed as a favorite of seven points or less. Their last five wins have also all been by at least seven points. Meanwhile, seven of the Pelicans' last eight losses have come by double digits. Grab Toronto on the spread.

Prediction: Raptors -4 (-110)

Over/Under analysis

When these teams faced off a month ago, they combined for just 206 points, going well below the total of 221. Now, we're seeing a slightly higher number and while McCollum does make New Orleans better on offense, we're not sure how much he elevates a squad that averages just 105.8 points per game.

Sure, the Pels combined for 238 points with the Spurs on Saturday, but they got sucked into San Antonio's up-tempo style and now they're matching up against a Raptors squad that ranks 26th in the league in pace.

The Pelicans are also a Bottom-10 team in terms of pace and have gone a commanding 7-1-1 to the Under in their last nine games.

With Toronto limiting opponents to 106.9 ppg and forcing the most turnovers per possession in the league, back the Under.

Prediction: Under 222.5 (-110)

Best bet

Raptors big man Pascal Siakam has been on fire lately. He dropped 37 points while shooting 16 for 22 from the field against the Nuggets and has now scored at least 24 points in six straight contests. He has also been excellent on the glass, where he has pulled down at least nine rebounds in six of his last seven.

When Siakam faced off against the Pelicans on January 9, he scored 29 points while adding 10 boards. Raptors coach Nick Nurse has become increasingly reliant on his All-Star forward, with Siakam averaging a whopping 40.3 minutes per game in his last 26.

Expect Siakam to log plenty of minutes against the Pels tonight and take the Over 30.5 on his total points and rebounds.

Pick: Siakam Over 30.5 points + rebounds (-105)
