Technically, the Utah Jazz are still alive for a play-in berth in the West.
But riding a six-game losing skid, they’ll have to turn it around ultra-quick, starting Wednesday night when they host the San Antonio Spurs. Utah is favored by three points in the NBA odds.
San Antonio is on its own journey, riding the express train to a top lottery pick, and might not have last year’s top pick, phenom Victory Wembanyama, in the lineup as he’s battling an ankle injury.
Can San Antonio dim Utah’s faint playoff hopes? Read below for my free Spurs vs Jazz NBA free picks on Wedesnesday, March 27.
Spurs vs Jazz predictions
My best bet: Under 230 (-110 at DraftKings)
Both teams come limping into this one at the Delta Center. Utah won’t have Jordan Clarkson (back) and Kris Dunn (suspension) available, while All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen is questionable as he battles a quad injury.
Both Victor Wembanyama and Keldon Johnson (ankle) are listed as questionable for the Spurs.
Utah has just not been able to get hoops of late, as it’s averaging 105.3 points on its six-game skid, topping 107 points just once, while shooting a grim 29% from 3-point range.
Defensively, the Jazz have been leaking all year, surrendering 120.8 points per game (28th), with their opponents shooting 48.6% from the field and 39.6% from distance.
San Antonio did manage to break a 3-game slide with a 104-102 win over the Suns last time out, not a small feat without its prized top pick against the Durant-Booker-Beal trio.
Still, it was only the Spurs’ second win to close out an 8-game homestand, as they averaged just 105.6 points, including a dismal 29.6% mark from beyond the arc.
If there is a silver lining, their defense surrendered only 111.5 points per game, a marked improvement from their 25th-ranked scoring D that gives up 119.3 points on the year.
It’s the third and final meeting of the year between these two, with the Jazz averaging 129 points across two wins, winning by double-digits each time.
However, the way these teams have been limited offensively lately, I’ll lean on the total. San Antonio has hit the Under in six of its last eight, while Utah has failed to cross the total in five of six.
Spurs vs Jazz same-game parlay
DraftKings must feel good about the status of these teams’ star players, as they’ve been given the full prop treatment, which I’ll gladly roll into an SGP.
Let’s start with Markkanen, who drilled six 3-pointers en route to a team-high 34 points in a 115-105 loss last time out to the Dallas Mavericks.
It’s been feast or famine with him from distance of late. In his last nine, Markkanen has hit at least four triples in five games, and one or less in three.
However, he’s had good vibes against San Antonio, drilling five moneyballs in each of the first two matchups. Assuming he’s a go, I like him lighting it up from deep.
Wembanyama, meanwhile, is averaging 4.1 blocks in the month of March. He’s had four games of six or more blocks, while falling short of his Wednesday line of 3.5 blocks by one swat in two other games.
Despite two losses to the Jazz, Wemby has hosted a block party in each, with five blocks in each contest. If he suits up, I like him to top his rejection total.
