Flames vs Jets prediction
My Jets pick
Under 5.5 (-104 at Pinnacle)
My Jets analysis
The Winnipeg Jets have been one of the most consistent teams in the NHL all season long and that is largely due to the play of their goaltender, Connor Hellebuyck, who is on pace to win back-to-back Vezina Trophies. Hellebuyck has boasted a 28-6-2 record with a .929 save percentage and a 1.97 goals against average. He’s also earned six shutouts, which leads the league and a +28.2 goals saved above expected, which is also a league’s best.
Since January 1, Hellebuyck has continued his strong season, skating to a record of 4-1-1 with a .924 save percentage and a 1.83 goals against average, he has been a brick wall. As a team, the Jets have been defending extremely well in the new year, only allowing 2.00 goals against per game and skating to a 83.3% success rate on the penalty kill.
Offensively, Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor continue to carry the Jets as they each have nine points in their last seven games. Scheifele has tallied five goals while adding four assists, and Connor has tallied four goals of his own with five helpers.
Collectively, the Jets are averaging 3.14 goals per game over their last seven and have earned 33.3% success rate on the man-advantage. The Jets have been the second-highest scoring team, putting 3.57 goals per game in the back of the net.
The Jets have been money on home ice this season, skating to a 18-4-3 record.
Flames vs Jets odds analysis
The Calgary Flames have been struggling to score lately, with only one goal in each of their last two games. This month, the Flames are averaging 2.29 goals per game and their power play has struggled as it has converted on just three of 20 attempts (15%). Not only are the Flames not putting the puck in the back of the net on the power play, but their penalty kill is having a really hard time as it’s skating to a 64.7% over their last seven games.
The Jets will be playing their eighth straight home game tonight and they have been very strong during this home stand, going 4-1-2 during the stretch, but, they have won four of their last five games.
In their last five games, the Jets have only allowed six goals against and have only given up one power play goal on 15 attempts.
