The Toronto Raptors will try to halt a two-game losing streak when they welcome the Portland Trail Blazers to The Six on Monday night.
While the Raptors’ offense has had some missteps early on, their defense has eaten up opponents so far this season. Toronto will have a great chance to keep feasting against a Blazers team that has struggled to adjust to life without Damian Lillard.
I break down the NBA odds and bring you the best bet in my free NBA picks for the Trail Blazers vs. Raptors.
Trail Blazers vs Raptors odds
Trail Blazers vs Raptors predictions
The Toronto Raptors enter this matchup having lost consecutive games to the Chicago Bulls and the Philadelphia 76ers. And despite issues when it comes to scoring the basketball, the Raptors have been ferocious on the defensive end of the floor so far this season.
Toronto has thrived in new head coach Darko Rajakovic’s new system. Scottie Barnes looks rejuvenated and is super active at that end of the floor and already has nine blocks this season. So maybe Rajakovic’s claim that Barnes will win the Defensive Player of the Year isn’t so farfetched after all.
Barnes leads a team that ranks fifth in the NBA in defensive rating, second in opponent effective field goal percentage, and fourth in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. Overall, the Raps are allowing just 100.3 regulation points per game through three games this season.
All this means getting buckets could be tough for the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. The post-Damian Lillard era has got off to a rough start for the Blazers. Portland has begun the year 0-3 straight up and against the spread and scoring has been a big problem.
Without Lillard, the Trail Blazers don’t have someone who can reliably create their own shots and it shows. Portland ranks 23rd in offensive rating, 29th in effective field goal percentage, and has scored just 102 points per game.
On top of that, the Blazers will be playing the second half of a back-to-back after dropping a 126-98 decision to the Sixers yesterday. Portland hasn’t topped the century mark in scoring since a season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Raptors already run a deep rotation, and their offense is not great, so a blowout is likely less of a possibility. Bet on the Raptors to keep making opposing offenses extinct and take the Blazers to go Under their team total in this one.

Trail Blazers vs Raptors same-game parlay
So, if the Blazers are staying below their team total it means not many players will be hitting the Over on their points props. And I’m specifically looking at Shaedon Sharpe.
The Blazers' shooting guard leads the team in scoring at 19.3 points per game but is shooting just 33.3% from 3-point range, and having to face the likes of Scottie Barnes and Gary Trent Jr. will make getting shots up all the more difficult.
The Blazers haven’t been great on defense either. Portland ranks 24th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage so far this season, and one player who can take advantage of that is Dennis Schroder. The Raps point guard has been hot from beyond the arc early on, hitting 52.6% of his attempts. He’s hit at least two threes in all three games so close this SGP out with Over 1.5 threes for Schroder.

Trail Blazers vs Raptors and Over/Under analysis
Toronto opened this matchup as a 7-point home favorite and has seen the early money, moving the line to -9 as of Monday afternoon.
The Raptors have been a much better team at home in recent years and are 10-3-1 ATS over their last 14 games at Scotiabank Arena. On top of that, the Trail Blazers have looked like one of the worst teams in the NBA early on and are playing the second half of a back-to-back.
That said, as a person who watches every game this team plays, it’s tough to have faith in them to cover a big number when they aren't scoring very much. Toronto ranks 25th in offensive rating and 19th in effective field goal percentage through three games this season. This is the Raptors' first time as big favorites in the Darko era, so until they prove they can cover big numbers, I’ll be staying away.
When it comes to the total, it hit the board at 216.5 and has been bet down slightly to 216. As I broke down above, I think the Blazers will have a tough time scoring tonight, but the Raps may not be much better. So, I’d have a slight lean to the Under in this matchup as well.
