Two teams that saw massive improvement this year will look to end their seasons on a high note as the DePaul Blue Demons take on the Georgetown Hoyas in the opening round of the Big East Tournament.
The Blue Demons have gotten the best of the Hoyas twice this year, and I pick them to cover again tonight in my DePaul vs. Georgetown predictions.

Who will win DePaul vs Georgetown?
Georgetown has been the better team all year, but the Hoyas have struggled a bit since freshman center Thomas Sorber went down with an injury.
DePaul won the last meeting between these teams to wrap up the regular season, and I’m picking the Blue Demons to pull off the upset tonight.
My best bet: DePaul +4.5 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
In a vacuum, tonight’s game would be Georgetown’s to lose. The Hoyas are the higher seed, went 17-14 this year, and rate out as the better team by most advanced metrics.
Their defense has been particularly strong for a team not heading to the NCAA Tournament this season, rating 54th in defensive efficiency nationally according to KenPom.
But there are two reasons to doubt Georgetown tonight. First, we’ve already seen DePaul beat this team convincingly twice this year. The Blue Demons won the first game in Georgetown by five back in January, then scored a six-point win at home on Saturday.
I try not to put too much stock in the small sample size of two regular season games, but, notably, DePaul won both despite being an underdog, as they are tonight.
Georgetown also isn’t at full strength for tonight’s matchup. The Sorber injury has looked like a turning point for the Hoyas, as they’ve gone just 2-4 since then. Sorber was named to the Big East all-rookie team after averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He also averaged two blocks per contest, and it’s been hard for Georgetown to overcome losing its second-leading scorer and defensive anchor.
In those last six games, the Hoyas have allowed an average of 82 points per game, a dramatic increase from the 68.7 ppg they were giving up for the season. That’s too much for a relatively inefficient Georgetown offense to overcome regularly, especially without Sorber picking up some easy points in the paint.
That was shown in Saturday’s matchup, where the Blue Demons shot 56.6% from the field against a suddenly shaky Georgetown defense. I can’t be sure they can make three straight wins against the Hoyas, but I don’t think they’re real underdogs in this game.

Isaiah Rivera Over 13.5 points
Both matchups this year hit the Over, and Saturday’s game totalled 160 points, well above tonight’s number.
I’ll also take DePaul senior Isaiah Rivera to hit the Over on his total of 13.5 points. While Rivera is only averaging 10.7 ppg for the season, he has scored 14+ points in four of his last five games — including a 21-point outburst against Georgetown on Saturday.
