The Georgetown Hoyas and Syracuse Orange meet up at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon in an old Big East conference matchup.

The Hoyas come in with a .500 record at just 5-5, winning last time out against Siena in a tune-up game on Wednesday as the Under connected.

The Orange spanked Oakland University at the Dome by a 95-66 score as 16.5-point favorites. Syracuse will be looking for a season-high three-game win streak against its old friends from Washington D.C.

Can Syracuse make it three wins in a row, or will Georgetown make it seem like old times in this battle between bitter rivals? We’ll discuss who will pick up a much-needed win in our college basketball picks and predictions for Syracuse vs. Georgetown on Saturday, December 10.

Georgetown vs Syracuse best odds

Georgetown vs Syracuse picks and predictions

The Hoyas picked up a 79-75 win on December 11, 2021 last season, as these teams continued their rivalry in D.C. In fact, the home side has won four in a row, although Georgetown has dominated against the number. The Hoyas are a perfect 4-0 ATS in the past four in this series.

Georgetown earned a 75-68 win against Siena at home last time out, covering a 5-point number. However, the last time we saw the Hoyas on the road, it was on the losing end of a 79-65 score in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In fact, that was the team’s only true road game to date.

Syracuse was very successful at home, winning 95-66 against Oakland, posting a season-high in points in the process. The Orange hit a rare Over, too, its first at home since November 7 in the regular-season opener against Lehigh.

Georgetown has struggled on defense this season, and that’s a concern here. However, Syracuse is rather middling on both offense and defense.

The spread in this one is pretty high. The Hoyas have cashed in four in a row in the series, and Georgetown should be able to keep it within single digits in this battle in upstate New York.

My best bet: Georgetown +9.5 (-115 at BetMGM)

Georgetown vs Syracuse spread analysis

Georgetown covered its only true road game so far at Texas Tech, and is a very respectable 5-2 ATS in the past seven on the road dating back to last season. The Hoyas are also a very solid 7-2 ATS in the past nine games against teams with an overall winning record. All of those trends should make Georgetown backers feel mighty confident taking the points here.

The Orange have picked up losing teams, though. Syracuse is a solid 5-1 ATS in six games at home against teams with a losing road record. However, the Orange haven’t had a lot of success stacking covers, and if it were to cover here, it would be the first three-game cover streak.

Syracuse is also just 2-6 ATS in the past eight games following a straight-up win.

As a favorite of 10 or fewer points, the Orange are 0-3 ATS this season, including a straight-up loss at home against Bryant on November 26, falling 73-72, and a loss to Colgate on November 15, slipping 80-68. Would it be surprising to see Georgetown win outright? Not at all.

It’s rather curious what the books are thinking making this a nearly double-digit point spread. Georgetown has covered four in a row in the series, and Syracuse has been rather sporadic on offense.

Georgetown vs Syracuse Over/Under analysis

For each of these teams, the Under has been the overwhelming trend.

The Under is 5-2 in the past seven games overall for Georgetown, while going 5-2 in the past seven on the road, too. The Under is also 9-4 in the past 13 against teams with a winning overall record, too.

For Syracuse, the Under has cashed in four of the past five games overall, while going 4-0 in the past four appearances on a Saturday, for whatever that’s worth.

The Orange hit the Under in the win against Siena last time out on Wednesday, as well as against UMBC on November 26. In fact, in each of Syracuse’s past three games at home which were decided in regulation, the Under is a perfect 3-0.

Georgetown ranks just No. 138 in points scored at 74.8 PPG, while hitting just 33.9% from behind the arc to rank No. 188 in the nation. Defensively, Georgetown struggles by allowing 73.3 PPG. If the Hoyas do anything well, it’s hold the opposition to 41.8%.

Syracuse is rather middling on offense, posting just 72.2 PPG to rank No. 187 overall. It isn’t a great 3-point shooting team at 31.7%, so the problems for the Hoyas against the three shouldn’t be a problem. The best play for the total is going Under 143.5 (-110 at BetMGM), and it’s a great parlay opportunity with Georgetown catching the points, too.
