The Seton Hall Pirates will get a chance to gain a massive resume-building road win on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Storrs, Conn. to face off with the 20th-ranked UConn Huskies.

Seton Hall is 16-11 overall, and 9-7 in Big East play. The Pirates are currently in ESPN’s Bracketology “Next Four Out” with a NET ranking of 67. UConn is 19-7 overall, and 8-7 in Big East play. The Huskies were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country before starting conference play.

Can the Pirates get another Quad 1 win and get back on the inside of the bubble? Check out our college basketball picks and predictions for Seton Hall vs UConn on Saturday, February 18 to find out.

Seton Hall vs UConn picks and predictions

This will be the second time this season that these two programs have faced off. Seton Hall got the upset in the first matchup at home, 67-66. The Pirates held UConn to only 39.3% shooting from the field and forced 17 turnovers.

Defense is Seton Hall’s strength under first year head coach Shaheen Holloway, who led St. Peter’s to a shocking Elite 8 appearance as a 15-seed last year. The Pirates allow only 64.4 ppg, which ranks 41st in the country. They also force 14.4 turnovers per game (58th).

UConn has a solid offense, but they do struggle with holding onto the ball sometimes. The Huskies average 12.7 turnovers per contest, which ranks 195th in the nation. They have also struggled when they have had to face top defenses. UConn scored 69 and 53, respectively, in their two games against Creighton, who ranks 13th in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

Seton Hall is 15th in those same rankings, and held UConn to 66 points in their first meeting. Many of UConn’s inconsistencies around their offense comes from their reliance on 3-point shooting. The Huskies score 34.7% of their points from downtown, which ranks 81st in the country.

Seton Hall defends the arc well, allowing their opponents to shoot only 30.5% from deep (30th). This translates to allowing 28.9% of their opponents scoring to come from the 3-point line (118th). UConn has lost two of their last four home games after starting 10-0 at home. One of those losses came to St. John’s as 16.5-point favorites.

I wouldn’t go as far to say that the Seton Hall moneyline is my best bet, but it is certainly worth throwing a little towards those great odds. However, I absolutely love Seton Hall to cover and keep the game within single-digits.

My best bet: Seton Hall +10 (-110 at DraftKings)

Seton Hall vs UConn spread analysis

Seton Hall has been solid on the road this season at 5-5 SU. They’re also 6-4 ATS in those 10 games. The Pirates are 3-6 in Quad 1 games thus far, and only four of their conference losses have come by double-digits.

On the offensive end, Seton Hall has struggled all year and rely heavily on getting to the free throw line. The Pirates average 23.0 free throw attempts per game, which ranks 16th nationally. The good news for them is that UConn allows 21.7 free throw attempts per contest (337th).

The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings between these two programs. The Pirates are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss, and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. Meanwhile, the Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win.

I like these trends to continue Saturday afternoon. The Pirates will keep the game close with their defense and ability to draw fouls and get free points. This game will come down to the wire.

Seton Hall vs UConn Over/Under analysis

UConn is one of the few teams in the country that ranks in the Top 25 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency in KenPom rankings. So, while Seton Hall’s defense will keep UConn in check, the Huskies will also stymie the Pirates’ offense.

The Under is 4-1 in the Pirates’ last five games against a team with a winning SU record. It is also 8-3 in Seton Hall’s last 11 games overall. The Under is 4-1 in the Huskies’ last five games against a team with a winning SU record.

If this total was closer to 140, I would feel much more comfortable with the Under here. The last game played similar to how I see this game playing out and there were 133 total points. So, I only slightly like taking the Under at the current number.
