If college football betting hasn’t quite gone your way this season, then maybe the Texas Longhorns are the team for you.
Tom Herman’s bunch has also disappointed, with the Horns failing to make the Big 12 Championship game and the school quietly pursuing Urban Meyer before being turned down. So what do the Horns get for their troubles? Another legendary head coach considering the program? Maybe a trip west for a little sun? Nope, Texas gets an Interstate bus ride 75 miles away to San Antonio.
While the Horns try to stay motivated, here are our best college football free picks and predictions for Colorado at No. 20 Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday, December 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET in the Alamo City.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick
This season hasn’t been a complete disaster for Texas. We’re still talking about a 6-3 team in the Top 25. However, this was supposed to be the year that Herman’s team finally competed for a conference title.
The Horns didn’t, but it’s not for lack of talent. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger is a four-year starter who has thrown for 2,406 yards this season along with 25 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He’s built like a tank and will run often. On defense, the Longhorns will sorely miss linebacker Joseph Ossai, who would have been the best player in the field come Tuesday. Instead, he’s getting ready for the NFL draft.
Colorado was perhaps the surprise team in the Pac-12 this season, and the Buffs almost pulled off a perfect regular season before crashing back down to Earth in a 38-12 home loss to Utah. The Buffaloes are still looking for their first bowl victory since way back in 2004, and they’ll need quarterback Sam Noyer to step up. He’s hit the 1,000-yard marker in the air while tossing six touchdowns and five interceptions. The Buffs must also protect the football after three turnovers versus the Utes.
Bettors immediately grabbed Colorado and the points when this line was released, and it has shortened as a result. However, while the Horns had their title hopes dashed, Herman is 3-0 in his last three bowl games. He knows how to prepare his team, so I’m backing Texas.

Over/Under Pick
The Horns haven’t played since December 5 when they destroyed Kansas State 69-31. That game was a bit of an anomaly, but this is still a Texas offense that averages 43.1 points per game and is ranked 21st in the country. The Over is 5-2 in the Longhorns’ last seven games, and I think they will out-physical Colorado on their way to making sure this contest finishes past the number.
PREDICTION: Over 63.5 (-110)
