The Michigan Wolverines have been led all season by running back Blake Corum, setting program records along the way. If Michigan is going to win its first National Championship since 1997, better believe Corum will have a role in it.

He has scored multiple touchdowns in six straight games, yet there is still value in betting on him to do that again.

Let’s take a look at the college football odds for Blake Corum heading into the CFP National Championship game between Michigan vs Washington, on Monday, January 8.

Blake Corum prop pick

To score 2+ touchdowns (+135)

Blake Corum has found the end zone at least twice in each of his last six games, the crux of Michigan’s schedule. Anyone doing that at any point in the season would be impressive, but to do so twice against top-10 defenses like Penn State’s, Ohio State’s, Iowa’s, and Alabama’s stands out.

If wanting to be critical, lower those to top-15 defenses, but all four rank in the top 10 in SP+’s defensive rankings and the top 15 of opponent-adjusted expected points added per defensive snap, per cfb-graphs.com.

There is no such thing as a sure thing in any aspect of sports — that’s why we gamble on them, attempts to solve that puzzle — but Corum is about as close as it gets these days.

In the four games this season in which he did not score twice, he scored once in each and Michigan won each of those games by at least 27 points and by an average of 36.5 points. Corum could and did rest, getting just 13.75 touches per game in those four. In the Wolverines’ 10 other games this year, Corum has averaged 19.8 touches.

Any worry about Michigan not scoring enough to get Corum two touchdowns should be mitigated by realizing the share of the Wolverines’ scoring chances that go his way.

Michigan has scored 60 offensive touchdowns this year, 27 of them courtesy of Corum. In the Wolverines’ last five games, all against defenses significantly better than the Washington Huskies’, 10 of their 14 touchdowns involved Corum.

Unless Michigan is held to single digits, Corum should get into the end zone twice.

Blake Corum 2+ TDs

Blake Corum Over 5.5 receiving yards

Blake Corum Under 105.5 rushing yards

When the Wolverines need to manufacture offense, they turn to Corum that much more. In the last two games, tense moments against Iowa and Alabama, the running back has caught five combined passes for 45 total yards.

That may not sound like much, but when Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy has thrown for only 368 total yards in those two games, 12.2 percent of them going to his bellcow of a running back warrants notice.

And then adding a bet seemingly against Corum creates significant value in this same-game parlay. Taking the Over 105.5 rushing yards would create a payout of +338, about a quarter of this version’s payout.

For that matter, the Under 105.5 rushing yards is the right bet, too. As much as Washington’s rush defense is suspect, Corum has cracked triple digits just twice this season, one of those tallies coming when Michigan took all the air out of the ball in the second half against Penn State.

Donovan Edwards may take some carries away. So may McCarthy. But even if not, Corum is unlikely to get 20 rushes, a number he has reached in only four out of 14 games.

The Huskies’ rush defense is rather ugly, particularly in allowing explosive plays. But logic says Washington may sell out to stop the run and force McCarthy to beat it through the air, further taking away Corum’s chances at gross yardage.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
