Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

When the Cotton Bowl matchup of No. 7 Florida versus No. 6 Oklahoma was announced, it had the potential to be one of the best games this bowl season. The Sooners are one of the nation’s hottest teams, while the Gators are the owners of the country’s best passing offense, but that might not be the case heading into this one.

Heisman finalist Kyle Trask leads the Gators’ high-octane offense, but the senior signal-caller will be down several weapons for this contest, most notably, highly-decorated tight end Kyle Pitts. The first tight end to ever be named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, Pitts racked up 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in just eight games this season and is likely a first-round pick in the NFL draft.

On top of that, Trask will be without his top three wideouts in Kadarius Toney, Trevon Grimes, and Jacob Copeland. So, the Gators will have to get creative with their playing calling in this game to get the most out of Trask. For example: In the good fight Florida put up against Alabama in the SEC Championship, Trask threw for 408 yards and three touchdowns, of which 360 and all three scores went to Pitts, Toney and Grimes.

They’ll face an Oklahoma team that has won seven games in a row (6-1 ATS) and was able to avenge a loss to Iowa State in the Big Ten Championship. And while the Sooners’ offense may not be as potent as in years past, they are still dangerous with Spencer Rattler at the helm. But the most impressive part about this Oklahoma squad might be its defense, which ranks 20th in the country in total defense. And while the Sooners have some issues in the secondary, they have a ferocious pass rush and will try and get Trask to force some throws to some receivers he might not trust as much.

The Sooners defense is good, but they haven’t faced anything like this Florida offense, even with all of the opt-outs, Trask is good enough to keep up for a while. But those absences will show in the final score as Oklahoma should pull out a close one.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma -2.5 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

The total for this game hit the board at 68 and peaked around 71.5, but has started to come back down, which is likely due to Florida is missing all of its top weapons. But it also may have come down enough that we can attack the Over.

Kyle Trask is still Kyle Trask and he will make some plays in this game. Oklahoma has had some trouble with the passing game, particularly when it comes to giving up big plays, ranking 75th in the country in passing yards allowed per game. On top of that, they’ll be without one of their top corners, Tre Brown, who is also opting out. Obviously, the Gators won’t be firing on all cylinders, but they did score 45 points per game in the three games without Pitts and should still do enough here to keep the Over in play.

The Florida defense on, the other hand, has been leaking like sieve. The Gators rank 99th against the pass, and allow over 400 yards of total offense per game. They have allowed 35 or more points five times this season, which includes 89 the last two weeks against LSU and Alabama. While Oklahoma has taken a little step back on offense, it should find plenty of room to work in this one.

PREDICTION: Over 70 (-110)

First Quarter Moneyline Pick

Trask threw for 4,125 yards and 43 touchdowns this season, with 2,343 of those yards and 31 of those touchdowns going to Pitts, Toney and Grimes. So, while you can expect Trask to find his footing at some point, there will be, without a doubt, a bit of an adjustment period early on in this game as he works in his new weapons. Take the Sooners on the first quarter moneyline getting even money.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma (+100)
