After picking up their first win of the season, the UTEP Miners try to make it two straight when they visit the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have just two wins on the season themselves but are a hefty 7-point home favorite in the college football odds.

That’s likely because they’ve dominated this head-to-head, and why my UTEP vs. Louisiana Tech predictions and college football picks have the home team doing it again Tuesday night.

UTEP vs Louisiana Tech prediction and best bet

My analysis

After losing by double digits in all but one of their six losses on the year, UTEP finally hit back with a 30-21 win over the FIU Panthers.

One of the weaker running teams in the conference, the Miners hung 211 yards and a pair of TDs on the Panthers.

That overshadowed a so-so effort at pivot for Skyler Locklear, who got his starting job back with the injury to Cade McConnell. Locklear was just 14-for-23 for 161 yards with a TD and interception.

There won’t be anywhere to hide Tuesday as the Miners will face one of the best defenses in the conference.

Louisiana Tech gives up just 104.2 yards rushing per contest, which ranks tops in C-USA, and its 23.5 points per game is third best.

They should be returning home with something to prove after getting upset as double-digit point favorites at New Mexico State, losing 33-30 in double OT.

Despite the loss, Evan Bullock threw for 233 yards and two scores. Since being inserted as the starter three weeks ago against FIU, he’s led the Bulldogs to their two highest-scoring outputs in back-to-back weeks.

On the year, Louisiana Tech is putting up 25.5 points per game. They do much of their damage through the air, ranking 43rd in the nation in passing yards.

That will be a key matchup on Tuesday — as the Miners allow just 207 yards per contest, which is 55th in college football.

This head-to-head has been all Bulldogs, who have won nine of the last 10, including last year’s 24-10 victory on the road.

UTEP is even when looking at the point spread, going 5-5-0. However, almost all of the Miners’ covers are as massive underdogs, at 14.5 points or higher.

The Miners covered as a 6.5-point dog in 2021, the only win they’ve had over the last decade.

With a premier defense and an offense finding its legs under Bullock, look for the Bulldogs to send the Miners back to the loss column again.

UTEP vs Louisiana Tech same-game parlay (SGP)

Louisiana Tech -6

Skyler Locklear Under 215.5 passing yards

Tru Edwards anytime touchdown

Locklear looked better than when he was benched, but the sophomore pivot is still a little shaky, even if Louisiana Tech’s passing D is middle of the pack in Conference USA.

He’s gone three straight starts throwing for 161 yards or less and hasn’t topped 200 since a 28-10 loss to Liberty.

Locklear will be forced to throw the ball against the Bulldogs, and I don’t see the many positive results he’ll need to be successful.

One player who has been getting it done of late is Bulldogs’ senior wideout Tru Edwards.

He hauled in nine balls for 110 yards and two scores against New Mexico State, following up his 6-catch, 127-yard, 1 TD performance against Middle Tennessee.

He’s become Bullock’s go-to guy, and at plus odds to find paydirt again, I’ll gladly add this to a parlay.
