Two of the NFL's brightest young stars will duel tonight when Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers clash with Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars

Lawrence defied the odds in his sophomore season by leading the overachieving Jags to a 9-8 record and first place in the AFC South. The 23-year-old QB got better as the year progressed, logging three 300-yard passing games from Week 12 onwards. His finest effort came against the Titans on December 11, when Lawrence threw for a career-high 368 yards and three touchdowns in a statement-making 36-22 win.

Herbert, meanwhile, regressed in most statistical categories in his third season, but came up big when it mattered most. The former Offensive Rookie of the Year recorded his highest completion percentage of the season in L.A.'s playoff-clinching win in Week 16, and turned in another superb effort the following week, throwing two TD passes in a decisive 31-10 victory over the Rams.

This is the second meeting of the year between these two teams, and it's safe to assume Herbert & Co. will be keen to exact revenge on the Jaguars for a lopsided 38-10 loss way back in Week 3. Lawrence led the way in that dustup with three touchdown passes as Jacksonville posted its highest point total since 2019.

Chargers vs Jaguars latest injuries

Trevor Lawrence has been dealing with a nagging toe injury since a Week 13 loss to the Detroit Lions, and has been limited in practice since. However, don't read too deeply into his inability to get in reps. The 23-year-old has yet to miss a game in his pro career and is expected to be ready on Saturday evening.

Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams remains questionable after suffering a back contusion against the Broncos on Sunday, but his head coach is hopeful he'll be available for action. "We have a long time between now and the evening on Saturday," Brandon Staley told reporters. "So, we're just trying to maximize all that rest time for him and give him all the treatment necessary."
