Blackhawks vs Avalanche Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Blackhawks may not escape elevation with a victory over the Avalanche, but there's enough value on the underdogs to cover the puck line.

The Colorado Avalanche host the Chicago Blackhawks in a Central Division tilt during tonight's NHL slate. The NHL odds list Colorado as a -425 favorite, while the total is  6.5.

Chicago has won the last two meetings between these teams, and while I am not optimistic about a third straight win, I do believe the underdog can keep this game close, as detailed in my Blackhawks vs. Avalanche predictions below.

Read on for my NHL picks for Monday, March 10, with the puck drop slated for 9 p.m. ET.

Blackhawks vs Avalanche prediction

My best bet
Blackhawks +1.5 (+130 at DraftKings)

My analysis
There is no denying that the Colorado Avalanche are the superior team by a substantial margin. With that said, there is a point where the line inflates beyond reason, and I believe that is the case in this matchup, as the Chicago Blackhawks are available at +130 to lose by one goal or less.

There are a few reasons why I am optimistic that Chicago will not get blown out in this contest. First, it has played a better brand of hockey in March, covering +1.5 in each of its last five games.

Part of this trend has been the play of newly acquired goaltender Spencer Knight, who looks to serve as the Hawks' netminder of the future. Knight is 2-0 through his first two games with his new club, posting a .951 SV% and 1.95 GAA.

Another reason to be optimistic about Chicago's chances of being competitive in this matchup is that top prospect, defenseman Artyom Levshunov, is expected to make his NHL debut. Levshunov has played tremendously in the AHL, ranking in the 97th percentile in overall game score and 98th percentile in even-strength defense, according to InStat.

Blackhawks vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)

Blackhawks +1.5

Ryan Donato anytime goal

Teuvo Teravainen anytime goal

If we're backing Chicago to keep this game close, we need some of its skaters to find the back of the net. While most of Colorado’s defensive attention will be on Connor Bedard, Chicago’s second line has generated the majority of its scoring chances over the past few weeks.

Forwards Ryan Donato and Teuvo Teravainen have played well together on that second line, with both scoring in two of the Hawks’ past five games. Chicago covered +1.5 in each of those two outings.
