Blues vs Jets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Wednesday’s NHL Playoffs Game 5

Although Connor Hellebuyck hasn’t looked sharp in the postseason, we expect the Vezina frontrunner to rebound as the Jets regain control of the series on home ice.

The St. Louis Blues showed up on home ice to tie their Round 1 series with the Winnipeg Jets, and the two teams will hit the ice at Canada Life Centre for Game 5 on Wednesday.

Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck’s poor postseason play is water-cooler talk once again, and the Vezina Trophy candidate will play a big role in my Blues vs. Jets predictions and NHL picks for April 30.

Who will win Blues vs Jets Game 5?

The Jets won the first two games of Round 1 on home ice and went 30-7-4 at the Canada Life Centre during the regular season.

Winnipeg also limited St. Louis to just 2.76 expected goals and eight high-danger scoring chances across Games 1 and 2. This aligns with the Jets allowing the fewest goals per game (1.95) this past season.

While Connor Hellebuyck has played poorly, he should bounce back as the Jets take a 3-2 series lead.

My Blues vs Jets pick: Jets moneyline (-160 at BET99)

Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck has received ample criticism for his underwhelming playoff numbers, and it’s warranted given his .817 SV% and 4.24 GAA while ranking last with -7.27 goals saved above expected.

Of course, there’s a flip side to that coin, and it’s the St. Louis Blues sporting a postseason-high 17.6 team shooting percentage despite generating the fewest expected goals per 60 minutes (2.01). The Blues also rank first and last in the two metrics at five-on-five, while the Jets have posted a solid 52.1 Corsi For percentage and 53.6 expected goals percentage at 5-on-5.

Both Hellebuyck’s play and the St. Louis scoring efficiency are all but certainly unsustainable, and I expect both to meet in the middle in Game 5.

After all, Winnipeg has been the better team for the majority of the series, and Hellebuyck posted an elite .925 SV% with a league-high 48.8 GSAx during the regular season.

Blues vs Jets same-game parlay (SGP)

Jets moneyline

Under 5.5

Connor Hellebuyck Over 21.5 saves

The three legs of this same-game parlay are all correlated, and as highlighted, the Jets were excellent defensively on home ice during the regular season. It’s also carried over into Round 1, with the Blues generating the fewest expected goals per 60.

With Winnipeg also showing off as the better team at 5-on-5, I’m expecting Hellebuyck to tidy up his play in Game 5 and for the Jets to prevail in a low-scoring affair.
