Bruins vs Maple Leafs picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Moneyline analysis
The Boston Bruins are starting to heat up at the right time, currently riding a four-game winning streak. They’ll be facing a Toronto Maple Leafs team sitting several key players to give those guys some extra rest for their first-round playoff matchup.
Boston has been one of the best defensive teams in the league in this season, especially in its last five games, in which it’s allowed only six goals. The Bruins are coming off of a shutout win last night against the Buffalo Sabres — Linus Ullmark got the start and the win in that game, so it’s likely that Jeremy Swayman will be the starter for tonight’s contest.
Swayman has been phenomenal for the B’s all season, skating to a 23-13-3 record with a 2.37 GAA and a .915 save percentage. He has won three of his last four starts and tonight he will face a weaker offensive opponent.
Toronto has been one of the best offensive teams in the league all season, but without Matthews, Marner and Bunting, it doesn’t pose as much of a threat.
This game matters for Boston and has no meaning for the Leafs, I love the B’s to get the win.
Prediction: Bruins moneyline (+105 at BetMGM)
Over/Under analysis
This is going to be a very different look for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and they will not play like the second-best offensive team that we are use to seeing, especially against a team as sound defensively as the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins offense has been solid all season — not great, but solid — as they are currently ranked 15th, averaging 3.1 gpg. During their four-game win streak, they have been able to find the back of the net, potting 17 goals combined, and they are hoping to continue that momentum into this game.
This will be the first time this season that the Leafs are playing without Matthews, Marner and Bunting, so I am not expecting them to generate nearly as much offense.
I think 6.5 is way too high of a number, and like this game to stay Under.
Prediction: Under 6.5 (-120 at BetMGM)
Best bet
The Boston Bruins have been looking like a great team over the course of their last five games and are hoping to avoid the Carolina Hurricanes as a first-round playoff opponent.
If the Toronto Maple Leafs win this game, then they will be guaranteed to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in round one of the playoffs. A loss keeps it up in the air between the Bruins and Lightning, but they don’t care, they know it will be a challenge regardless of the opponent. Rest is very important for this team that’s hoping to exorcise its playoff demons.
The Bruins would love to win this game and give themselves a chance to play Toronto in the first round, because they have had a ton of playoff success against the Leafs in recent years. This is the Bruins’ game to lose and I think they have some incredible value.
