Best NHL Player Prop Bets Today, April 4: Gustavsson Stands Tall Against the Islanders

Filip Gustavsson has been one of the league’s top goaltenders down the stretch, and we expect the Wild netminder to stay busy against an Islanders offense that's been generating shots at a high rate.

There are three games on the ice tonight, and all eyes will be on Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin’s pursuit of the all-time goals record.

However, I'm looking elsewhere with my top NHL player props, including a pair of NHL picks from the Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders bout at UBS Arena.

Best NHL player prop bets for April 4

Lucas Raymond Under 0.5 points (+136 at bet365)

Detroit Red Wings winger Lucas Raymond has only marked the scoresheet in seven of his past 17 games, and he hasn't been skating with No. 1 center Dylan Larkin down the stretch.

The duo have been on the ice for a run-of-the-mill 2.41 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five this season, and Raymond dips to a well-below average 1.67 mark when he isn’t jumping the boards with Larkin.

Of course, the Carolina Hurricanes are also strong defensively. Carolina paces the NHL in Corsi For percentage and expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 while ranking second with an 84.5 penalty-kill percentage.

Tony DeAngelo 3+ shots on goal (+175 at bet365)

New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy is leaning on defenseman Tony DeAngelo for top minutes down the stretch, with the veteran averaging a team-high 23:21 per night over the past 12 contests. DeAngelo has three or more shots in five of those contests, with 29 total on 53 attempts.

I also value DeAngelo’s role on the No. 1 power-play unit. The Minnesota Wild have allowed the most shots per game to opposing defensemen this season, and they’ve also surrendered a healthy 32.8 per across their past six contests.

Filip Gustavsson Over 26.5 saves (-115 at DraftKings)

Wild netminder Filip Gustavsson has been excellent since the calendar flipped to March, boasting a second-ranked .925 SV% and 0.80 goals saved above average per 60 minutes.

He’s recorded 27 or more saves in nine of the 14 games, and the Wild have been giving up shots in bunches lately. Minny has allowed 32.8 shots per game while ranking 30th in Corsi For percentage at five-on-five across their past six.

With the Islanders losing six straight to all but fall out of the Eastern Conference wild-card race, I’m expecting them to up the shot attempts tonight. New York has already attempted the seventh-most shot attempts per 60 at five-on-five across its past 10 games.
