Canadiens vs Blues Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Cole Caufield has been one of the few offensive weapons for Montreal early in the season, and we expect the Habs' sharpshooter to continue his scoring ways in tonight's matchup against St. Louis.

The Montreal Canadiens will try to snap a four-game losing skid when they welcome the St. Louis Blues to Bell Centre tonight, but if they’re going to get back into the win column, they’ll likely need Cole Caufield to lead the charge offensively.

Keep reading to find out why I’m banking on the Habs' star forward to find the back of the net in my Blues vs Canadiens predictions and NHL picks for Saturday, October 26.

My Canadiens analysis

There hasn’t been a ton to write home about when it comes to the Montreal Canadiens offense this season, but Cole Caufield has been a shining star for the club early on. The right winger leads the team with six goals in seven games and is the only Habs player with more than two tallies to his name this season.

In fact, his seven markers make up nearly 40% of Montreal’s goal production as the Canadiens have netted just 18 goals as a team. After scoring a career-high 28 goals last season, Caufield looks poised to have another career year. Entering Saturday, he ranks among the NHL’s top goal scorers, trailing only Nikita Kucherov (8), Nico Hischier (8), Ivan Barbashev (7), and Ross Colton (7) atop the leaderboard.

Part of Caufield’s success has been his ability to generate shots — another area where he’s also leading his club. Caufield is averaging exactly three shots per game, though he managed just one attempt against the Rangers on Tuesday, marking the first time he put less than three pucks on net in a game this year.

The Habs sharpshooter should be eager to get back on track against a St. Louis Blues team that’s allowing 31.9 shots per game (26th), and with that, I think there’s a good chance he finds the back of the net.

Canadiens vs Blues same-game parlay (SGP)

Cole Caufield anytime goal

Nick Suzuki Over 0.5 points

Under 6

After starting the season with two scoreless efforts, Nick Suzuki has also turned up his offensive production and enters Saturday on a five-game point streak. The Canadiens captain is fresh off his first two goals of the season vs the Rangers, so confidence should be high.

Suzuki features heavily on the Habs powerplay, which is clicking at a respectable 23.1% success rate. He’ll have a chance to feast on a Blues penalty kill that ranks near the bottom of the NHL (76.2%).

While these clubs have produced some high-scoring battles in recent years and cashed four straight Overs, neither the Canadiens nor the Blues look like offensive powerhouses this season. Montreal sits just 25th in goals per game (2.57) while St. Louis is tied for 17th (3.00). The Under is also 3-1-1 in the Blues’ last five contests.
